Federal emissions warranty notice for Lexus
I received a letter in the mail yesterday from Lexus headquarters, titled "1996 Through 1998 Model Year Federal Emissions Warranty Enhancement Notice".
Briefly, the enhancement notice is added onto the existing Federal Emission Control Warranty, which covers the said vehicles. What this warranty addendum notice covers are components of the evaporative control system for a period of 14 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date (whichever occurs first). These components include any or all of the following:
- evaporative storage (charcoal) canister
- evaporative system (fuel) pressure sensor
- fuel cap
- fuel tank
- fuel tank filler neck
- purge valve
- tank vapor vent line
- three-way valve
I should emphasize that this notice only pertains to certain 1996 through 1998 Lexus model year vehicles, so it may not necessarily apply to you even if you own a '96-'98 Lexus vehicle. You will know if it does when a letter in the mail is sent to you from Lexus HQ, with your VIN number written at the top of the letter.
This special warranty notice is also beneficial for those cars undergoing state inspection or emissions testing.
