But it's also a good idea. This thread seems to be going nowhere fast. I'm choosing not to respond to any more posts by MSBoy, so do as you wish.

I was taking the same route as well though (not responding to you inparticular). That's why I signed my name at the bottom of my final post. Peace.

but I would personally never presume to say that one process is BETTER than the other unless I had some data to back it up.

To add to that, the current Porsche's CEO, who came into office at the early 90's, the same one who got them out of the mess they where in, said in an interview, that one of the first things he did as Porsche's CEO is to go and learn from the ones who really know how to build cars, Toyota. He did, then came back fought his board and guess what Porsche, improved in almost any way.
Enjoy your BMW; great car I'm sure, I hope you'll never have any problems with it, but don't fool your self BMW's quality is up there with Lexus, only its perceived quality.
The AutoBILD survey confirms the trend. The first German entry on the list is BMW at number five, again trumped by Asian rivals.
VW CEO Dr. Bernd Pischetsrieder admitted to AutoBILD that "in technical terms, Toyota is better then us. But not just us."

Q: How do you continue to reap lower costs after having streamlined production so radically in the 1990s, using Japanese kaizen methods?
A: We get together with our Japanese colleagues and establish international benchmarks regularly. We visit them regularly, and they come three times a year to check out our production. It has become a kind of competition. We also go together to check out other companies. I'm very proud of what we've achieved together. We are striving for 6% to 8% improvement in productivity every year.
