"the 'normal' models aren't any more powerful than the GS/LS."

Amen

"Patience anyway, the hybrid Lexus's are going to give huge torque AND great fuel economy - MB/BMW will be crying in their boots then."

People don't seem to understand this yet......

Maserati, sorry. Isn't the 600 a normal car? in the low 500's right there.
It just hit me.. I'm thinking that this new LS will be Lexus' halo car like the LS600!

I take back whatever I've said in the past few posts, 375hp in perfectly fine as long as it whips the S500 and the 745Li

OK, the S600 is not a 'specialty' car in the normal sense, but according to this review the car has 493HP but it's $135K typically equipped.

For that kinda money is SHOULD be amazing. Hard to compare it with an LS which costs 1/2 as much!

493 is just on paper I know the first thing I'd do is drop in the delmited ECU which brings it to around a 3.3 second 0-60. Heck I'll beat a few supercars with that!

I'm just hoping for a supercar like this from Lexus. That's all I want. A 6 or 7 liter big body sedan.

A 4600lb car doing 3.3 0-60? Where'd you hear/read/see this is possible?

Bit, look at this thread I think he's referring to.

Thanks - I read some of the thread. vraa talks about 'dropping in a [new] ECU' etc., but by the time the guy in the thread above made his car that fast he's probably got $150K into it.

Now vraa, is it really reasonable to compare a $150K car to a Lexus? If you've got that kind of money, go buy the Benz! Oh it still has a *****ty nav system by the way.

I'm a little disappointed in that sketch of the new LS. Then again, I think the current LS is a beautiful piece of automotive engineering--it looks classy and sleek and definitely luxurious.

The IS concept is quite intriguing, however. I never got into the current "boy racer" bodystyle and agree with the general consensus that the interior is not up to Lexus standards. Something resembling that concept sketch that comes in sedan, coupe, and convertible trims, though, would indeed cause many sleepless nights for BMW execs.

Only a new ECU and that's all he's got

Like I've said before, I just want a Lexus that has a big engine. A lot of these big boys talk about heritage but heritage doesn't make you get to the end of the line, heritage doesn't make the trip smoother, heritage doesn't do anything but inflate prices.

I'm definately looking forward to a sleeker and sportier LS.
I'm sure Lexus will still avoid an overly sporty car though because
that's not what the LS is for. It's built to be a standard in LUXURY and
sell to people generally at an average age of about 55 when new.
This market doesn't want a sports sedan, that's what the GS is for.
It's conservative style is part of the reason the LS is the best selling
car in it's class aside from being the best value, having the best quality,
and having the most supurb refinement.

As far as what I think of the sketches I posted, I think this is a fairly rough
indication of what it will look like. I think the headlights will be a larger
and fuller shape (notice these are just like the current Camry's). The grill
looks accurate. I don't think the roofline will be quite as rounded. Overall,
the sketch makes the car look too small, expect something even bigger
than today's car.

For $150K or so it should.

I agree on heritage. Heritage, shmeritage - just bring on the great cars. I suspect Toyota/Lexus is working on a big engine for the trucks and SUVs. Nissan's 5.6L threw down the gauntlet. But I highly doubt Lexus is going to come out with 600HP cars... so you'll either have to build one or switch to MB.

Is it just me or does the IS sketch look vaguely similar to a 350Z? I plan on considering a Z next fall when I buy a new car so I've been paying much attention to them. I just feel a resemblance between this drawing and the Z.

i'm beginning to think the new trend on CL is to dig up old threads and bring them back to life
