Excellent! I'd get the M3, but for reliability and power go for a supercharged IS.

VERY compelling idea. What's the induction run, much more than 3 grand?

Price is the exact same, the M3 is owned by a family member who took great care of it, put 17kmiles on it.

Here's some pictures---1 year left bumper to bumper warranty, 3 years 100k on the engine.

I LOVE the M3, but it wouldn't have the IS3's reliability. Thoughts?

I'd go with a new IS300, hands-down. BMW dealers can be arrogant, M engines sometimes self-destruct, service and parts quite expensive, and so is insurance. But you're right on one thing......on a SMOOTH, curvy, unobstructed road an M can be a blast to drive......and best of all, Chris Bangle has not gotten to the 3 series yet.

a good setup that can beat the m3? WAY more than 3k for sure man

plus personally, if you put FI on the is3 you wanna do it right, and it's not cheap. yes teh motor is strong but if you don't do it right you can kill it. the tranny is also not that strong (specially the 5 speed) so you have to be careful on that too

I wouldn't normally consider leasing either, but I found a company that quoted me a G35Coupe Automatic, with everything PLUS navigation, 18k a year 580 bucks down total, 580 bucks a month for 39 months. Seems pretty amazing.
35k, and the car is so hot you can't really work on the price. As I was signing papers there were 3 calls for it and 2 couples looking at my pearl/graphite set up. I heard about the 05 but couldn't wait the car is sweet and If I really want more power I can pick a greddy TT and put out 400 hp. I say buy but if you can't and if a lease is your way of getting what you want then lease away. I will say this just came back from a meet and all G35's have that same smile even after owning there car for a year!

I'm not saying money is an issue for you as it is me. But I was seriously looking at used 540I wagons (has a closer 50/50 weight distribution than the sedans) but got spooked when I was checking into replacements parts prices, out of warrenty work at the local BMW shop and scheduled maintence prices. Being used, I would have been closer to having to deal with these issues than I would have been buying a new car. So I opted for the new car.

Besides, I absolutely feel in love with the interior of the Lexus over the 99 and 2000 BMW 5 series. One other issue that has always been a thorn in used vehicles, scratches, door dings and curbed wheels. I truely love stock BMW wheels, and I just pucker up when I see a seriously curbed BMW wheels.

Single shot

Just food for thought. Make one call to the BMW service center and find out the price of the next scheduled maintence.

You should not even have to make a choice between an M3 and an IS. It's like asking if you have to choose between a 32-oz Argentinian prime rib special and a Denny's steak and eggs for the same price....

...unless of course, you don't eat beef.

By the way, i meant GET THE M3, mang!

test drove a 2003 M3 the other day. it is just simply incredible in terms of performance and power. when i got back into my IS right after driving the M3, the IS felt like a really cheap car. then again, M3 does cost twice as much as the IS in the same model year.

yeah, BMW tend to have issues especially after 4-5 years (speaking from experience from owning two bimmers).

personally, i'd get the M3 for the year and then try dump it. only 17k miles in 3 years makes it attractive. most people put on average of at least 15-20k miles on a car per year. so even if you do put 20k miles on it for the year you own it, it will still be a low milege car.

lastly, it can be a challenge finding pre-owned M3s. most M3 drivers won't give these babie up easily.

actually a lot of people give up their m3 after the lease ends in 3 yrs. that still leave you a yr or two before stuff start to go wrong? but i agree, man if i were in this situation it would have been such a no brainer

I would say M3 then get the extended warranty.

If there's any prob after a year, you will still cover.

I have a similar situation coming up next year when my '02 IS300 lease ends and my friends dads '02 540i lease ends, he's offered it to me at the lease payoff of 35,000, otherwise it's going back to the dealer. I can see an agonizing decision in my future.
