I think if you read the whole thread it pretty much sums it all up to driver inexperience and error.
Most EVO owners probably rape thier cars, since it was made to be driven. But put somebody that doesnt know how to launch an all wheel drive car and just simply dumps it, then you are asking for trouble.

Inexperience is the answer.

Droppin g the clutch on any high power car, something's gotta give. And with AWD, its NOT gonna be the tires.
"What's that smell?" was what me and my friend were asking when he was first learning to launch his WRX.

Use the car for what it was designed for.
The Evo was not designed for clutch-dumping and drag racing...whether done legally on a drag strip or illegally on the street. If it was, it would not have the extra weight / drag of AWD...it would have a bigger, torque-heavy engine and RWD like a Camaro SS, Mustang Cobra , Firebird WS6, etc....
No, the Evo, like the WRX, STi, and VW R32, is designed primarily for road-rally type of conditions and winding road-type courses where high engine RPM and high-end HP takes preference over torque and the AWD gives big cornering and traction advantages.

I wouldn't expect a clutch to last if you drop it from 6k rpms at a launch. lol. Most of those guys do that.

The only true way you can launch an AWD car is by feathering the clutch or basically ride the clutch until the whole car grabs and goes. This is true to FWD cars as well, with some higher HP producing FWD racecars, they have to have some kind of clutch slippage to relieve the drivetrain from initial shock and stress from the power the motor is producing.
But with the AWD system, even if you bog off the line, they produce some nice torque numbers that you will probably catch up to what ever you are chasing/racing and beat them with the handling capability of these cars.
yeah EVO for me too, cant wait for the EVO MR edition coming out later this year.
