The old myth is that "L-EX-U-S" stood for: Luxury EXported to the United States...

However, in truth, it was a word randomly generated by a computer along with a list of others and hand-picked by Toyota Motor Corp to label their new ultra-luxury division. I believe it was originally "Lexis" or something before they changed it to "Lexus".

What is the origin of the name "Lexus"?

Toyota Motor Sales contracted a vendor in Northern California to create a name for the new luxury vehicle and division. The name "Lexus" was created by combining two words that depict the vehicle, "luxury" and "elegance."

They couldn't have come up with a more perfect name. "LEXUS" sounds rich, elegant, and of course luxurious. I think some of Lexus' success may also be a result of a great name. If their name sounded less "high class" it might actually turn some buyers away. It's definately my favorite sounding name in the auto industry.

Amazing Toyota was able to make something as great as the original LS with just $1 billion. Its alot of money but Ford and GM spend even more money to create garbage. Didn't Ford spend $3 billion to create the Contour in the early '90s?

Mmmmm, S-class. If it's a pic of yours ... I say keep it!

BUT if it's a MB promo photo ... then uh ... dump it - like WantAnewLex suggests ... immediately.
