Default whats the best way to break in a brand new motor?

hey guys, I have a brand new motor in my old SC and i am trying to figure out what is the best way to break in a new motor. My GTE block will have 0 miles on it when its installed. What is the best kind of driving that i can do to speed up the process, while still being gentle on the car. I want to make sure that everything gets seated well, and that there are little chances of anything going wrong. Thanks

Kevin

this is what i did when i had a built motor put in my mustang I let it idle for 20-30 minutes then i drove it keeping it under 3000rpm's and i changed the oil every 50 miles three times in case of and debre {with cheap oil and filter } then be easy on it for at least 500 miles and everything should seat properly

I disagree with the 20-30 minute idle. Most new-car manuals and engine rebuilders say to vary the engine speed as much as possible ( no constant RPM's) and keep it below about 4000 RPM for the first 1000 miles or so.....and no drop-clutch or full-throttle starts. This will help the piston rings and valves seat properly so it won't become a future oil-burner. The triple-50-mile oil changes certainly would be beneficial to get debris out but may be overkill...usually you're OK if you change it at the end of the break-in....about 1000 miles. The 1000-mile oil change is usually NOT mentioned in owners' manuals, but still is a good idea. Honda, though, is an exception....they are adament about keeping the factory oil in for the first 3000 miles.

From the Lexus Manual [BREAK IN PERIOD]

For the first 1000 miles or 1600 km

1. Do not drive over 88 km/h (55 mph)
2. Avoid Overrevving. Maintaining engine speed between 2000 and 4000 rpm.
3. Avoid full throttle starts.
4. Try to avoid hard stops during the first 300 km (200 miles)
5. Do not drive for a long time at any single speed, either fast or slow.

yeah yeah, im a baller what can i say.... haha this is what happens when you fk up your old motor and that is the only way to get your lexus back to running status.... I went to the local toyota dealer and got me a supra tt block, and they always have at least one in stock, so ... i bought it.

besides that, thanks for the replies, It seems as if everyone has their own way of breaking in a motor. Keep the replies coming because i need to find out which is the best of the best!

Simple: warm it up before you drive it and drive it like a granny for the first couple months.

the 20-30 minute warm up is crutial are you going to start a new engine then just go out driveing ??? it takes at least 20 minutes for a car to fully warm up you want a chance for all the valves to seat and gaskets to seat and you need to check for any leaks

What part of it? The whole project or just the motor? because the bottom end and crap cost close to $4k with labor (i got quite the deal) but this whole project was a big money pit at just over $31k...
