All from this, the most detailed authorized history on Porsche in any book i have seen. I have had this book for a few years, and still go back and read it from time to time. Very good book.

DaimlerChrysler is the title referring to the old Chrysler Corp. and Daimler Benz now as a single company.
Mercedes doesn't own Chrysler or vise versa. They are simply a unified company. This venture has nothing to do with the current quality issues at MB. Most of the issues are a result of MB implementing to many new and unproven electronic technologies in their cars. The Germans just can't do electronics like the Japenese can.

Yes they are and always have been their own company owned by no one else just like Ford, Toyota, ect.

Also, did anybody else think that VW owned Porsche or is it just me? The chart shows Porsche as their own company. I thought I was sure about this.

No, Porsche has managed to technically remain independent, although they would have been most surely bought out by VW if they didn't do the Touragemfage/Pepper deal. There has also been much technology-sharing between the companies over the years, which has helped Porsche financially.

I too, always thought that VW owned at least part of Porsche, especially with the VW Toureg/Porsche Cayenne/future Audi Pikes Peak sharing components.

There was Daimler Benz and there was Chrysler. Two companies merged and became Daimler Chrysler.
It's not like BMW buying Land Rover and then selling it to Ford. So who only owned a portion?

It does? How?

Acura and Infiniti are not separate compaines owned by Honda and Nissan...they are actually Honda and Nissan Divisions. That is why they use many of the same powertrains and platforms. And, don't forget....Nissan itself is now owned by Renault, a French automaker.

Same goes for Scion...it is actually a Toyota division, not a separate company. However, unlike Honda/Acura and Nissan / Infiniti, Scion has a different (and Saturn-like) sales policy than Toyota...all cars go for list price; no markups and no discounts.

When that shot was taken (circa 1948-1950?) a Porsche was, for the most part, just a Beetle with a different body on it. True hi-prerformance Porsches did not come till much later.
