yes indeed you can compare them... this is a conversation i overheard in the kitchen at work the other day, very good read.

m - man, 40s, bragging rights
w - woman, 20s, cute innocent
h - henry, 26, me, know NOTHING about cars...

m (bragging): oh god, i bought a 350z yesterday
w: oh cool, you like it?
m: yeah of course, it's so amazing. very fast and nice
w: oh really?
m: yeah. i was choosing between a 911 and the 350z. both used. test drove both, and seriously i think the 350z is about 90% of the acceleration of the 911. the 350z is so much cheaper, so i bought it
w: really? that must be really fast for the 350z.
m: yeah it's really fast. have you ridden in both cars before? you should see.
w: oh i have never. but i have ridden in a gt2 couple of times before when i was in england
h (ears stood up, damn this gal knows stuff)
m: gt... what? gt... 2? what is it?!
w: umm...... (start to roll her eyes) it's a porsche?
m: oh i never heard of that. it's like the 911?
w: err... yeah, *i think* it's better than 911 (you start to sense her tone now)
m (no shame): oh if you want i can take you for a ride in the z, it's very fast, and handling is very good too.
w: oh no it's ok, i am sure it's a good deal
m: yeah i got it for 29k used, very good. you think so?
w: umm... dunno, personally i think the z is a bit overpriced right now for the car
m (can't lose): oh no, i think it's a good price, you get everything, speed and handling
w: oic... well handling i think it's ok. i think the car is a bit big for my taste on handling
m: oh what car you think has the best handling you have seen then?
w: honestly, miata. i had one and that car is awesome on turns
m: oh you can't compare the miata to the 350z
w (eyes really rolling now): yeah i think so. alright see you later (left the kitchen)

now leaving m and h in the kitchen heating lunch, so h started to take the hit
m: yeah man, it's a nice car.
h: yeah sure, i drove the g35c before, it's pretty fast
m: oh no, the g35c is a different car, it has 300hp
h (mind in another world): no i thought the 350z has 280hp and the g35c has 287hp
m: really, i don't think so
h: oh ok, yeah either way it's a good car. you got the 6 speed?
m: nah i got the automatic
h (light bulb lights up above his head): ah... ic
m: yeah it's a good deal man. everything from factory, with 7yr/100k warranty, and it also has a tv
h: a tv? from factory? you mean nav?
m: no it's not nav. i wish it had it though. it's just the tv from factory. i don't really use it, but it's a nice gadget you know
h (turning into amusement): yes it is indeed very interesting. alright man, my lunch is done, i will see you later
m: oh sure. yeah if you want let me know, i can take you for a ride
h: oh it's ok, i have driven the g35c so i know what it's like, thanks

sigh, what a 10 mins in the kitchen.... so yup, you can't compare the miata to the 350z, but you can in fact compare the 350z to a 911

If you know your stuff, this kind of conversation is either entertaining or just plain excrutiating. Most people are idiots.

I have to avoid the desktop computer system sales portion of Best Buy when I go b/c it's unbearable to hear and feel people getting totally ripped off.

Sales: "No, the Celeron probably wouldn't do if you're interested in the internet."
Customer: "... and email."
Sales: "well, it's definately out of the question then."
Customer: "Oh, well, like I said, I just need something basic."
Sales: "Well, this is ancient, I don't even know why we still have these in stock. If you get this Compaq Pentium 4 with mega RAM and giga-drive then you'll probably be fine. Oh, you'll need a printer and an optical mouse as well."

Well, I think I vaguely remember a member here claiming his 350Z will run circles around a Porsche 911(maybe his is heavvily modded, but running circles? . . .), so at least that part is somewhat forgivable , but the TV part is plain retarded
