Whoever it was who flamed me on a past thread for saying it looked like an Accord can eat it because with that Honda badge, you show this car to anyone who ISN'T deep into cars or online forums, and they will tell you it is the new accord. Plain and simple. Maybe for us we can tell, but to the everyday person it'll just look like another Honda appliance. Way to go HoMo Co.

I haven't seen the car, but I really suspect the possibility of a misprint in that article. $59,500 looks like a more reasonable price to me, or else they will be selling this new RL at ~$25K Canadian over the new TL.

Acura could not have made the car more dumpy. If they price this thing at or above ~$47K, I will lose all respect for Honda as a manufacturer and corporation.

Who the hell do they think they are? Acura has the same freakin' market perception as they did 5 years ago, 10 years ago...Better than the Americans, maybe on par with Infiniti (definitely not the case anymore) and certainly not even close to Level Lexus/BMW/Benz.

People say that Lexus is just a warmed-up Toyota. Well, one can honestly claim that Acuras are truly nothing more than fancy Hondas. They're good cars, but there is far too much hype surrounding them and they're not "all that."

Like Iceman said, Acuras are a bargain. They're cars for people who can't or don't want to step up to the Big Leagues. Really, comparing Acura with a straight face to Lexus, BMW, or Benz (even Infiniti) is an insult.

Acura is going nowhere. They were here first, and they could have and should have established themselves as a force early on. Tough luck for them, it was and is clear they don't have what it takes. Again, even Infiniti puts Acura to shame. The luxury car market has been spoken for, and the bouncers are named Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. No one else is getting into the club. Ever.

I'm sure the RL will sell. But I can only hope it will be a disaster.

Of course I agree. THE current TL looks good to me. Kinda Alpha ish. I was expecting the RL to really build upon that. And we got this. So very weird.

Why add the hardware to possibly attract younger or more performance minded people and wrap it in this. Whereas the TL attracts that same group buy is missing the hardware.
Weird.

By the way, the Catera's stylists called and they are suing the RL for rAPEage.

Exterior side view is kinda bland, but better looking that the new BMW 5 series! I particularly like the front lights.

Interior looks great, I particularly like the huge nav screen and tons of steering wheel controls.

To those who keep asking where Acura is going - perhaps you're not aware that Honda has nowhere near the cash that Toyota does, and can't be too daring with their designs.

And to those who say the current RL doesn't sell, note that it far outsells the Lexus GS430 and still does 2/3rds of GS300 sales!

From this article: http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/ar...p/t-73894.html

Mid-Luxury Cars - May sales (vs last year)
1) Mercedes-Benz E-Class - 4,755 (21,747 +48.2%)
2) BMW 5-Series - 4,491 (18,568)
3) Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class - 2,226 (8,582 +13.6%)
4) Jaguar S-Type - 1,388 (5,965 +2.5%)
5) Lexus GS300 - 1,058 (4,236 -28.9%)
6) Acura RL - 671 (2,956 -23.6%)
7) Infiniti M45 - 298 (1,645)
8) Lexus GS430 - 190 (852 -19.6%)

You're right about that, it DOES look a lot better than the 5. Also, when I worked at the Lexus dealership for 4 months, I saw maybe 3 GS430s being prepped for sale. I think Lexus recognized this and that's a big reason they're making the new GS. It's due. Anyways, about the RL...

I gotta give it to the interior because it really does look great.

I'm perfectly aware they don't have the cash. So why do they pretend to compete with companies that do have the cash and the DESIRE to build proper luxury cars? Honda/Acura have stated they have no desire to build RWD sedans. A company that shows such flagrant contempt for potential customers really makes me boil.

Wow, chill, it's just a car company, dude. Acuras are great cars. No, they're not aimed at the same buyers as Lexus, but that doesn't make them bad.

As far as FWD, the cheesy Infiniti I30 has sold pretty well, as does the Lexus ES. They're not showing 'contempt', they're perfectly ok for someone who wants a comfortable ride without much performance/handling.

And this new Acura RL has AWD and some drivetrain goodies, I bet it will handle well.

The main thing I don't like about what's been shown on it here are the cheesy rims. But that's fixable.

there is way too much bias here based on looks, i am surprised to see this on an intelligent forum like this.

acuras are fine cars and this new RL is Gorgeous. You might not like the styling but that is subjective.

Btw name me a Lexus besides the current GS thats blows you away based on a styling level? Thats what I thought. Acura doesnt sell by styling. Neither does lexus. Infiniti is doing a good job on Design but there quality control is horrendous from personal experience.

btw I would take this car over a 530i and the next gen. GS3.

Robert

I totally agree with you. The bias comes from the same usual people though. From what i've noticed at least.

Give acura a chance...cuz damn..i think they did very well with this new RL.

Agreed, but Lexus also offers a range of RWD cars. I'm not saying that FWD is bad, but people like to think Acura is something of a luxury car company, and it clearly isn't.

FWD-bias AWD and a V6 in a flagship don't say 'luxury' at all. The RL may be a fine car, in a singularity. However, comparing it to a proper RWD from Germany or Japan (Lexus) is ludicrous. Don't forget, Lexus and MB are showing signs of embracing RWD-bias AWD...I wouldn't criticize Acura half as much as I do if their fans would just admit that their cars are a step above Honda, a half-step down from Infiniti, and quite a few paces away from the Big 3.
