This car, in my opinion, is going to be a tough sell in the American market......for two reasons.
One, the low quality of recent M-B products, and two, the prospect of this micro-vehicle sharing the freeways with 18-wheel semis and getting blown right off the road by the truck's aerodynamics.

How about on an L.A. freeway at 5 PM? Or the Washington, DC Beltway, ....just as bad?

I've driven them and it's not that bad but it needs more power and a better gearbox to be really nice.
Parking and gas milage will make you laugh!!!

That can be said of many micro vehicles....and even some not-so-micro ones like the Civic Hybrid and VW Golf / Jetta diesels.

You can get the Smart as a turbo diesel too.
Does something like 60 mpg.

Let's see...a car meant strictly for metropolitan use now comes with a top-down roof to allow better inhalation of sulfur dioxide and other pollutants in ever-increasing traffic. What's not to like?

The funny thing is they are not cheap...

Will we have a "peoples" car again. Something for about 10k that people can buy and love? The Xb is closest to me but still to pricey....

I don't know how much it is - but I'd apply whatever that amount happens to be toward a diesel Jetta wagon.

The "Smart" is pretty dumb in my opinion.

EDIT: Oh geez ... Does that door-gap increase >/= 5mm from top to bottom?

Give me a radio flyer wagon, some glue, 3 pieces of cardboard, and a lawnmower and I'll build you a better car.

Oh God...I saw it in Italy 3 years ago, and now it's here. It was good there all around the tiny streets, zipping around, but in the US, this is really, really, a bad idea.

LOL

Oh man, driving this car = impending death.

Plus that gearshift looks, um, questionable...

WRONG!!!
Not only for use in metropolitan use since in Europe we also need to use highways to get from one city to the other. It's not FAST but it is liveable with on the highway.
Speed limits in the US should be no problem since they are lower.
