This car, in my opinion, is going to be a tough sell in the American market......for two reasons.
One, the low quality of recent M-B products, and two, the prospect of this micro-vehicle sharing the freeways with 18-wheel semis and getting blown right off the road by the truck's aerodynamics.

Let's see...a car meant strictly for metropolitan use now comes with a top-down roof to allow better inhalation of sulfur dioxide and other pollutants in ever-increasing traffic. What's not to like?

you can pull them in straight in a parallel parking...they get unbeleevable mpg and i think theyre cool little toys..
id buy one just to have...like for a 7th car...lol

I don't know how much it is - but I'd apply whatever that amount happens to be toward a diesel Jetta wagon.
The "Smart" is pretty dumb in my opinion.
EDIT: Oh geez ... Does that door-gap increase >/= 5mm from top to bottom?
Give me a radio flyer wagon, some glue, 3 pieces of cardboard, and a lawnmower and I'll build you a better car.

Oh God...I saw it in Italy 3 years ago, and now it's here. It was good there all around the tiny streets, zipping around, but in the US, this is really, really, a bad idea.

Not only for use in metropolitan use since in Europe we also need to use highways to get from one city to the other. It's not FAST but it is liveable with on the highway.
Speed limits in the US should be no problem since they are lower.

799 cc turbo diesel for the diesel version. (41 hp but good torque)
