Default Ferrari Breaks in Half on Track

I was sitting under a tree at the exit of turn 6 and saw the whole thing. He wasn't going that fast, got on the throttle too early and spun to the inside and hit the right front on the inside tire wall. It wasn't that hard of a hit. It was scarry to see the driver sitting there with his legs hanging out, totally exposed. I'm glad the corner workers got the rest of the cars slowed down. The driver was Federico Kroymans, the Ferrari and Maserati importer for the Netherlands, the car is a F399. He was able to get himself out of the car and limp around. He is tall and a bit overweight, so I wonder if they modified the monoque for him to fit. It was a clean break at the bulkhead where the steering wheel attaches. I didn't take any pictures, it seemed kinda sick to...
He walked to the side of the track under his own power and the safety crew put an ice pack on one of his legs. He also walked to the safety vehicle and then to the Chrysler 300C course cars that took him back to the paddock. It wasn't a very fast hit, which is why it is so surprising that the front snapped off at the bulkhead.

Wow that 2nd pic is amazing. I'm just glad to see his legs are still attached and not in the nose cone.

It should be noted that this is the 2002 Ferrari F1 car. The new owner is fairly tall, so he actually had the car had it lengthened to accommodate his taller frame.
I guess the splice didn't take. MEDIC!!!

Glad to hear he walked away.

Thumbs down

What a dumbass. I don't think, uh, F1 carbon-fibre monocoque was made to be 'lengthened.'

I knew something was up. No way it would have done that if it was in original factory condition.

Very true, the lengthening was done at Ferrari
The car is back there now so they can fix it again.

Not 100% sure but this was also the chassis that Shumacher broke his legs in at Silverstone that year.

Bob, please respond to your PM/Email.
