BMW clearly prefers .5L/cyl...wonder why they up'd the old 4.0L V8 to 4.4L, maybe they were just getting tired of the old Lexus 4.3L muscle.
I cant wait to see the NSX's motor, and hope Toyota rolls something like this. Absolutely amazing engine, mated to an otherwise disappointing chassis.

hmmm Honda can build better suspensions and engines than BMW, there is absolutely no question about that. If the TL were rwd it would be best in class, it's more profitable to use the Accord platform however. The NSX suspension/steering remains vastly superior to anything BMW offers or will offer. Honda pioneered the complicated ultra-stiff lightweight ASF structure, and stiff thin alluminum allyo body panels.
You have to keep in mind BMW loses lots of money financing these M products, Toyota just doesn't have any halo-cars anymore, they will shortly. They will be superior to BMW halo products too.![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The LS flagship is already superior to the current 745i, the new LS will be even better.
I would like to see BMW put together something as useful and forward thinking as a hybrid engine.

On another note, I'm not gonna try and summarize, anyone who's interested really should read the entire article. It's really amazing what BMW is doing, and I am now fully aware of the M5's powerplant...astounding!

I wish there was a similar artcle on the transmission and driver controlled power settings.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be to fix an electric problem that arises out of that complex ECU. Seeing as how complex M engines are, I wouldn't doubt that there will be some gremlins starting out, but overall, I really am impressed by everything underneath the sheetmetal. Everything with the design, I still totally detest, sorry BMW.
Great article BTW.

well w/Toyota's built to run 200k+mi, I dont think Toyota will build such a highly tuned engine. Unless that mid-engined supercar rumor becomes reality.
However Toyota I believe will heavily rework all their engines.

although the engine is marvel of engeering feat, i would still prefer a Toyota 2JZGTE / NIssan RB26DETT block anyday...why? Durability....ask any E46 M3 owner today about their engines and how weak it is. BMW knows how to get the power out of the engines, but spin it up to redline a couple of times and ka-boom! Not only that, but BMW knows this, so they put a tach memory counter inside the ECU to record it to void ur warranty.....I've spun my old Supra TTs engine up to redline on more than a few occasions, while it was pushing in excess of 400hp+. I've even ran it firing with 5 cylinders, because i blew off the sparkplug electrodes, and not one single damn problem, ever!
