New SL65.....$240,000!!
The SL65 all seem to be going for about $250k, the CL65 about $180k. Has anyone actually seen a CL or SL65 on the road yet?? Hopefully the 2003 CL55 come down just a little in price now so I can get one!

Like 4 days ago I was driving with my friend and a guy at the park was showing off his SL65 to his 2 friends, I pulled by slow to just look at but he looked at me so I waved and he waved me and my buddy jeff parked and looked at it for a sec. We shook hands and introduced eachother but that was about it. We had to go to a warhammer game so I didn't have all the time I wanted.
It really just looks like a normal SL but I was floored by how massive the brakes are. They are just HUGE! I've seen pictures of it and I can tell you the brakes are like 40 times bigger in person then in pictures.
Did I mention... the brakes were gigantic?

While I give this car my utmost respect (we'll forget about MB's quality issues as of late) who really needs 6 liters of forced induction V12?
I've driven both CL600 and SL55 and honestly I don't see the need for anymore torque in either of these two machines. They should come with neck braces as it is.
But hey, if they make it, someone with money will buy it. Sad thing is, most of the people that can afford these cars only buy them to say they have a quarter million dollar Mercedes just to turn around and drive it the same as a C-class.
The need for this car is extreme money, not extreme performance. At least in America. We don't have roads to accomodate such a machine or justify the cost. The supercharged V8 and NA 12 cyl are already excessive as it is.
JMO.

the car is damn nice, but 240k for the sl65? ok, now that might be a tad too much... i probably would choose to have the modena or something, even if it's slower...

Whoever designed that gauge cluster should be shot, set on fire, and fed to wild dogs.
But my God, what an incredible piece of work.

You probably just saw a 55. Not totally rare, at least in my parts. Yesterday I saw my first 65. It was a black CL65 and it rolled by the background as I was getting interviewed for a new job. I don't know how the interviewer didn't ask what that huge grin on my face was for. I went outside and looked at it, and turns out it belongs to my old boss who had a CL600 back when THEY first came out. He had the same license plate frame for the country club that he owns. Amazing car. Too bad he had a huge scratch across the trunk lid already.

Hehe that was exactly my point. They buy it cuz they can, not because they are interested in using the car to it's full designed potential.
