Used vs. Dealer demo

Used vs. Dealer demo
My wife and I were looking into buying a Denali yesterday, they had (2) '04's on site, a white one with 9600 miles and a silver one with 8300 miles, the only other difference was the white one had 2nd row buckets vs. the bench in the silver one. We drove the silver one and got the negotiations going and everything looked good until we decided we liked the white one better and wanted it, the dealer said that it was a dealer demo and was being sold as a new vehicle, we couldn't get the same price on it as we could on the silver one, WTF! How or why do they consider a demo with 9600 miles new? I consider any vehicle with 9600 miles used, no matter who drove it, it's still used. So can anyone shed some light on this or is this normal for dealers, never came across this before, who is going to pay a new car price on a vehicle with 9600 miles?

Since the car was never titled, technically it is "new". But they still should be discounting a "new" car with 9600 miles on it...............

I had a similar expreience a while back when buying a used Mustang.
Dealer had one that was about 1 or 2 years old with 10K on the clock, but was selling as new because it was never titled. It had the same warranty as if it was brand spankin new.
Its a semantics game. 9600 miles is 9600 miles regardless of whether the vehicle is titled or not. If anything, it was might have more wear and tear on it due to people test driving it and running it hard.

wait, if it was a dealer demo, isn't it titled under the dealer? here in fresno lexus, we've got LS430s, demo ones, and are selling as "used". So i'm guessing when it's a demo, it's considered "Fresno Lexus's car??"

yeah I know but you can find someone that has had a bad experience with just about any manufacturer, even Lexus, but we're still looking anyway. It's the wifes car, she wants a full size SUV and the '04's are pretty damn cheap right now.

I wouldn't buy a demo... I am a firm believer what people get for free and don't plan on keeping gets abused big time.

I've worked for/with a couple dealers and this does happen, IMO it's not worth it for the discount most dealers offer.
