yup, agree. the hp figure on the euro isn't anything like the japan. the m3 ONLY has 333hp and a very unimpressive (by comparison) 262 tq, but look at the performance figures of the car, it's just fast.

hp isn't everything. like olt said, tq is something very serious. hp is a function of tq, and tq is really what defines a car imho (somewhat). and together with the beautiful gearing, etc... on the car, all these euros are no joke.

man, the old BMW 5 and 7 series are nice cars. Too bad Bangle has managed to make a BMW look like a uglier Honda.

What if someone swapped in a Getrag from the TT Supra into a LS400?

Retrodrive did it, but I want to see the 1UZ-FE unmolested behind a manual.

Very true... torque, especially down low, will equate to some tire smoking acceleration... I guess i may be spoiled though... on just a 100 shot, my car made almost 600ft lbs of torque... And all of it kicks in at 3k, which is where my nitrous hits... NA i have over 300ft lbs of torque from 2500 to past 5000.... That car does impress me, no doubt, dont get me wrong... im just used to more. Even with 420rwhp in that 5 series... i think it would do 12's at best, simply because its a tank. But thats ok though, cause its not meant to be a drag car...

My sentiments exactly. Not to mention that the '97-'01 7-series drives extremely well on both the city and highway, and no funky interior controls to confuse the driver. I've taken my father's 740 out many times, and I can honestly say it feels almost like the LS430

I actually love the looks of the new 7. It looks really sleek and elegant. Only thing is I've heard alot of horror stories about the new 7 that would keep me away. I actually prefer the looks of the E65 over the E38.

Ok, but hit the twisties and I'll take the BMW anyday. Nothing against camaros, but nothing handles like a BMW. I've seen a guy in a E38 740 run a 55 second lap at an autocross where the fastest run was a 49 second lap. And to give you an idea, a Corvette was right behind him at 50 seconds, but it was modified. The 7 series was stock

I have seen a stock 5 series run at the front of the pack at the Dragon infront of a Viper and an NSX (this year) with autho-ri-ty .

yup, the engineering of the car is just crazy. bimmer cars are famous for balance and handling. i don' tknow about the e38, but i drove the new 5 series 545, and man is the handling awesome. it's just speechless
