Default Question about Radar Detectors

Ok all, I am in the market for radars and want to hear what everyone is saying and what everyone thinks about the best radar out there. I know about the Valentine 1 and there was one other one that a buddy was telling me about but I can't remember what it was. Give me your opinions on the good ones and the pros and cons to them. Also, let me know which ones can be hard wired in the car. Thanks in advance all.

search the following two terms together:

valentine 8500

or

V1 8500

or

valentine passport

or

V1 passport

both V1 and 8500 can be hardwired to car. my v1 is hardwired and attached to bottom of rearview mirror, with the remote display located inside the cluster gauges right above the areas of 120mph to 160 mph, but i can still see everything.....very convenient that way.

so looks like people are sort of partial to the V1. What about models. I have seen the 1.7 and 1.8, just as quick searches on ebay but what seem to be the differences? Need to check more into the 8500. thanks for the responses. Keep em coming.

I dont even own a V1 but i would go with it. The V1 offers dual radar antennas and it tells you what direction the hits are coming from.

Go with the V1. I've been using one for years. When I drove a bright red (citation red?) Mustang Cobra
I never did get a speeding ticket. It saved my A@@ on more occasions than I can count. they are quality
made and can be upgraded as technology advances.

You'll never be sorry!

both the valentine and passport are upgradeable.....meaning you can send the detector back every couple years (with some cash) or so to get new technology placed inside. go to their website and you can run the vin number of the detector. i recommend buying new on something like this. when i looked on ebay, teh price differences were negligible, and there are clear warranty advantages (from what i remember, though i may be wrong), in buying new.

the website will tell you which version is the latest. having just purchased mine a couple months ago, it even has protection against pop mode.

www.valentine1.com

passport is available through stores like best buy, etc.

i strongly suggest that you buy both, test them out, and see which you like. i've had both and that's the only way i could decide.

and use the SEARCH feature.....this has been discussed numerous times before, so there's already a lot of information on previous threads that will certainly be of use to you on this.

good luck

it's either valentine 1 or escort passport 8500

i have the v1, i cant' complain, and it's been awesome, telling me where cops are miles ahead (at lesat 2 when i am on straight)

my friend he got both radar, put it on his car together, and after a week of use, he took out the escort and the v1 stays. what should i say

Don't know where you plan to be driving.....but keep in mind that they are illegal in several states, including mine....VA. In fact, here in VA, not only do the police (primarily the State Police) have detector "detectors"(and they WORK), but there are no warnings, you are fined, and the detector is impounded. Same in a couple of other East Coast places here.......but it looks like you'll be doing most of your driving out West.

Thumbs up

V1 all the way. I have used Escort/passport detectors for almost 15 years and made the switch last year and will never go back.

I hardwired my V1 recently. I'm more than happy with its performance.

huh?
the passport SOLO S2, as i recall, is cordless, but the 8500 is not....at least the 8500 X50 i used to have wasn't. i do think that the S2 is a tad more expensive because it's cordless.

also, earlier i said to run the vin number on any V1 on ebay....umm, i meant serial number

oh yeah, i didn't know they were illegal in several states....i thought it was just VA, DC, and Canada.....but i'm sure a search on google will tell you.

good luck
