Default 2007 Infiniti SKYLINE GT-R Midsize Coupe/Hatchback

http://www.edmunds.com/future/2007/i...h..future..3.*

What Edmunds.com Says: It may end up wearing an Infiniti badge, but this next generation Skyline should have all the attitude of its Nissan cousins.

What We Know: After years of rumors and intense lobbying by Nissan enthusiasts in the U.S., Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn announced that his company plans to release a fully redesigned version of the legendary Skyline GT-R by 2007. The new version will take its cues from the GT-R concept car that has made the rounds at various auto shows over the past several years, and unlike its predecessor the GT-R will make its way to the U.S. With the 350Z already occupying a steady spot in Nissan's lineup, look for the GT-R to come Stateside wearing an Infiniti badge. A prototype caught testing on Germany's grueling Nurburgring test track made the rounds wearing the shell of a current G35, but obvious signs of serious modifications indicate it was no ordinary Infiniti. The car is expected to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in the fall of 2007 and go on sale later that year.

I wish they woulda differentiated it a LITTLE bit from the G35. I still think the R34 is the sexiest Nissan made.

Neat, but fall 2007?????????????

That would put it arriving at the end of the current G35's cycle...I don't get it...Still a good platform, though, and I'm excited to see what it ends up like.

I would rather see it here as an Infiniti than a Nissan...normally I would have it the other way around.

What Nissan did is base the Skyline on another Nissan product. The R34 GT-S was a 4 door Maxima with Skyline badging. The R34 GT-R was basically a 2 door Nissan Maxima. Now they are going to base the body on the G35. I'm pretty sure that the G35 has pretty much the same chasis as the 350Z. So it would be safe to say Z=skyline. Remember... the only thing it will have is the body. The engine will be a beast which the G35/350Z wont be able to match. Its basically like what Toyota/Lexus did. The SC300 has 225 hp. The Supra TT has 320. Its the same chasis, but huge difference in engine. Hope this helps!

Forgot to add the G35 actually has less hp than the 350Z. G35 has 280 hp/260 tq while the 350Z has 287hp/274 tq. The displacement, however, is greater on the G35 (3500 CC vs. 3498 CC).

It is true the PRESENT G35 is based off the same FM platform used on the Nissan, albeit somewhat stretched, but your insinuation that the previous R34 Skyline was in any way related to the Maxima is way, way off base. It is like saying the Supra is based of the Avalon! The R32/33/34 has always been based on its unique chassis, with the GT-S essentially a four door version of it. I think what Infiniti/Nissan is doing is fixing up a moded G35 and denoting it as a GT-R, because in essence the G35 in Japan is the Skyline (go there and you'll see it with Skyline badging).

It make sense from a JDM and product perspective while keeping the the infamous GT-R monikor in tact (sans Skyline now). My only hope is that Toyco and Honda answer this performance war from Nissan.....

Well, a couple yrs back Motorex was transforming Maximas into R33s. And I have a magazine to prove it. Since with just a body kit and few other things, the 2 generations old Maxima looked like a Skyline, I started to think that its pretty much the same chasis. I am going to email Motorex to find out if I am right or wrong. I still think I'm partly right, because you CAN make an old Maxima look like a R33.

Yes, but you can also make a nsx look like a f50, and a civic like a is300
