DETROIT (Nov. 1, 2004) -- WomanMotorist.com recently released its 2004 Third-Quarter Brand Preference Study, which places Ford at the top of the list of vehicle brands most requested by women.
New brands entering the top 10 were Mazda, GMC, Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti. Several brands dropped from the top 10. These brands included Jeep, BMW, Acura and Saturn.
According to study officials, Ford experienced a 3.5-percent increase in vehicle requests during the third quarter. This is the largest increase in actual vehicle sales for any brand, said study officials. Honda lost ground, but continued in second place as most requested. Toyota took third place on WomanMotorist.com's list with a small loss in interest.
The biggest movement in the list came from Mazda, which jumped from 13th to 4th place, according to the study.
"Women showed less interest in luxury and near-luxury brands during the third quarter of 2004, with the exception of very expensive vehicles, like the Aston Martin DB7 and Porsche Cayenne," said Sandra Kinsler, WomanMotorist.com's editor-in-chief.
WomanMotorist.com's top 10 brands requested by women:
1) Ford
2) Honda
3) Toyota
4) Mazda
5) Nissan
6) Chevrolet
7) Volkswagen
8) GMC
9) Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz
10) Infiniti

I would have expected Volkswagen to have been much higher on the list than seventh....and Mini isn't on the list at all.
Though I personally don't believe in automotive stereotypes, it is no secret that Volkswagen Beetles, Beetle convertibles, Cabrios, Golfs, Jettas, and non-supercharged Minis are a BIG hit with the ladies...as the new Mini convertible is also liikely to be.

Wow, no BMW or Lexus. Maybe the guys that conducted this test do not like women? Or maybe they don't have many women friends. lol As those 2 are always mentioned by the women I have spoken too when cars come up.
I do agree with the Ford/Honda/Toyota as if I had $1 for every chic I knew with a Focus, Civic, Accord, Camry or Corolla I'd be a millioniare.....

Women often don't care about 'features' and don't want to spend a lot. So they look for safe, reliable, inexpensive transportation, in the right color.
Seriously, it's been shown that women often judge color as the number one buying criteria. Ford does ok in these areas, plus Ford has actually spent a lot of energy looking at female customers because they make a LOT of the buying decisions in families.
GS3Tek - you may be thinking of young wealthier professional women but that's only a small segment of the market. Many of the women I work with drive VERY boring cars (Accords, Tauruses, Cavaliers, basic Civics, etc.) A woman I know who used to drive a cool 240ZX sold that and got a Ford Contour
- what a piece of crap that was.
