Thumbs down My thoughts on the BMW M3 Convertible

i jut got back from Vegas(sema)

and i had my girl out there and she wanted to see the sights so i thought

i better rent a car and since i was always curious about the M3

i figured i kill 2 birds with one stone

so here's the car

before i start with the bad i'll give them this ....the convertible was very user friendly

and suspension was pretty sweet and i still think it's a beautiful car

But the interior was boring and nowhere near luxurious the seats were very uncomfortable

i dont know how many of you have driven the new M3's but ive heard they were very fast

while it was quick it wasn't what i thought it was

i was actually thinking of selling my GS and getting a used M3 but im so happy

i got 24hrs with this thing

i know some of you probably had better or the same expierences

i just wanted to share mine

oh btw it was a 6-speed

one more thing i didnt like was everytime you went in reverse the right side-view mirror

would fold down for a better view ....i nkow some of you like this for parell parking

but just when your backing up it was dangerous at least for me

it's probably not as fast as u think because it's a convertible. Just checked, M3 convertible does 0-60 in 5.4. That's barely faster than 350Z or a slightly modded WRX. And it's not much more luxurious than either of those either. But it does look nice and handles well. Then again, 350Z and WRX ain't bad at all at corners.

So if you're really looking for performance, the M3 coupe would be a great choice. Convertible M3 sacrificed some of performance for the convertible, but hardcore track people won't get the conv. version anyways.

I think the seats are pretty nice in the M3 coupe. Maybe conv. is different, but I think it holds well and isn't too narrow.

i don't like the way the convertable looks. the top clashes with the rest of the car..

BTW how much did it cost to rent?

its still a very pimp ride. convertible isnt as good as the hard top so its tough to stuff them all in the same basket.

I prefer the M3 coupe too. Not only is it lighter & quicker, but any convertible with a ragtop doesn't look good when the top is up IMO.

yeah, i think your car was slow coz' it's a convertible, that's a good 80lb heavier, so the car is quite a bit slower. i drove the coupe 6 speed and as long as you go with high rev, the speed is just incredible

oh and about the mirror, i actually miss it coz' i had that on my tl-s. it all depends on whether you are used to it or not

I too am a huge fan of the M3 Coupe and everything about that vehicle is amazing (looks even better with the optional 19" Factory Rims from BMW).

Get one if you have the opportunity! You only live once and you will live it happily owning a M3!

Just keep in mind the new revamp of the 3 series will be available next year (2005), so a new M3 / M4 will come out afterwards (just like that NEW monster of a M5 you see in the magazines now). I always wanted a M3 Sedan, but BMW never came out with one for this current Generation.

yup, the new m3 i am sure would be even better with the v8 (that's the rumor right?), but the style... i would want the e46 more.

oh and somehow i like the factory 18s more than the 19s, if that's the choice. i like the 18s with a bit of lip

Romninl - 18 or 19s either way you can't lose with the M3.

Also on another note, I wanted to add that sure the BMW M3 interior is not as luxurious as a Lexus, but it doesn't have to be pretty for me either. The interior maybe bland, but it's functional and you buy a BMW mainly because of it's performance, amazing handling and speed. The M3 will turn heads everywhere.

ah yeah, sorry i forgot to comment on the interior. it's definitely boring. that's one thing i don't like about the eruo cars in general. the interior has like so many buttons, and they are all so boring. it's just not as elegant as lexus imho. the seats are harsh, but i take that for performance

The reserve down mirrors are for parallel parking only. They do not have any use for regular backing up, you might as well use no mirrors at all if you're gonna use that feature to back up. I have this feature on my mark VIII and as soon as it did it and I realized what it was for I turned off that function(as you could have done as well TLW).

Ive tried more BMW's than I can count. Last gen to current generation, 3 series, 5 series, brand new 745i, etc... and I hated all of them for various reasons. Ive totally given up on Beemers

JAC JZS, believe in BMW again!

I have a friend that has a 545i sport and as much controversy & debate in regards to the new design of the 5 series, my god this car is a monster derived from the pursuit of providing pure driving exhiliration. Everything about this vehicle is tweaked for performance and even the new look is growing on me (it helps that the rims and tires are nice and fat as well!).

I don't have to tell you this, since with you drive a MB S430 and once you go German it's tough to go back to anything else.

that's what I don't get about BMWs. They got a bunch of technological stuff in the cars, but that doesn't represent luxury. The designs are not classy, the quality is usually sub-par (still remember testdriving 528i with radio buttons that fell off), and the material is barely comparable with Toyotas. You gotta get to 50k+, such as 545s up and 7 series to get all the actual luxury stuff. So how does BMW qualify for luxury cars? It's more like a performance-oriented brand.

If a bunch of wood means luxury, then a Cefiro (I35) in Taiwan has more wood than South America, and hence represent luxury?

ok TLW lemme hand u back the thread
