The only problem I see with the 997 is the 2 inch tire-to-fender gap and keeping in mind that it has an active suspension ( I would not want to change the very capable suspension), how would you lower the car to get rid of the gap........................ Yes, I know it is just quibbling.
hey hameed, any links or more info about the 996 to 997? i can imagine that the 997 being quite a bit better, i believe the s is almost on par with the 996 gt3. that's how good the new one is. but then somehow i just like the 996 style a bit more than the 997, guess it's just something getting used to

and man, don't tempt me to get a test drive

and about the fender gap... dunno, to me it's just a matter of time before some better aftermarket suspensions come out for that car

YEah Henry, give me a sec and I can tell u all about it. This is the first time in I think 30 years Porsche debuted 2 models at once.

In my latest CAR, they test the new M5 and say its so good, its more a 911 S competitor cause its killing the E55/RS6.

The other thing is Porsche admits this is about the HP limit for the flat 6. That is why V-8 rumors are getting louder and louder.....

Default Interesting news

I had a chance to check out the 997 S yesterday and spent some time talking to the sales rep. The S is on par with the GT3 in performance. In addition, there is a UK sports package that MIGHT come to the states that will drop the car even further (my sales agent said he would check for more details).

The interesting things he stated were these:
The Cayenne is making up over 50% of the North American sales for Porsche! That is just plain nuts.
In addition, Porsche is debating if they want to buy the Phaeton platform from VW (since the 2 companies have a very intimate relationship -> think Toureg & Cayenne collaboration). They plan to shorten the platform and slap a V8 in it. They want to go after BMW's sedan market!

Talk about some crazy things going on for Porsche.

Btw that Gemballa makes me drool!

There have been reports that Porsche is planning a sports sedan for a while. Personally, I can't wait for a M3 & M5 competitor from Porsche.

Yes, but dear god. Let's hope we don't have another Toureg/Cayenne debaucle. It's sad on how VW's impression of the Toureg was so much better than the Cayenne even though the Cayenne could run circles round it. The TopGear review on the Phaeton was incredible.

I am also in agreement on seeing a M-killer from Porsche. Seems like there really isn't anything in that segment (don't think I would really include the Audi S-series)...unless Lexus really delivers on their new line of sports tuned vehicles. Which I unfortunately do not see happening Just not Lexus' style.

The 996 GT2 is ~475hp and 3.6L
all it really has are bigger intercoolers and upped boost compared to the 996TT.

I think the 993 GT2 was 450hp

the new 997's 3.8L engine should have a slightly better powerband.

P-cars can be modified to make some pretty wicked numbers.

Yes but that's turbo power which adds a LOT of cost. 1SickLex was talking about NA power. 100HP/liter NA is impressive.
