The only problem I see with the 997 is the 2 inch tire-to-fender gap and keeping in mind that it has an active suspension ( I would not want to change the very capable suspension), how would you lower the car to get rid of the gap........................ Yes, I know it is just quibbling.

and about the fender gap... dunno, to me it's just a matter of time before some better aftermarket suspensions come out for that car

I had a chance to check out the 997 S yesterday and spent some time talking to the sales rep. The S is on par with the GT3 in performance. In addition, there is a UK sports package that MIGHT come to the states that will drop the car even further (my sales agent said he would check for more details).
The interesting things he stated were these:
The Cayenne is making up over 50% of the North American sales for Porsche! That is just plain nuts.
In addition, Porsche is debating if they want to buy the Phaeton platform from VW (since the 2 companies have a very intimate relationship -> think Toureg & Cayenne collaboration). They plan to shorten the platform and slap a V8 in it. They want to go after BMW's sedan market!
Talk about some crazy things going on for Porsche.
Btw that Gemballa makes me drool!

There have been reports that Porche is planning a sports sedan for a while. Personally, I can't wait for a M3 & M5 competitor from Porche.

I am also in agreement on seeing a M-killer from Porsche. Seems like there really isn't anything in that segment (don't think I would really include the Audi S-series)...unless Lexus really delivers on their new line of sports tuned vehicles. Which I unfortunately do not see happening

all it really has are bigger intercoolers and upped boost compared to the 996TT.
I think the 993 GT2 was 450hp
the new 997's 3.8L engine should have a slightly better powerband.
P-cars can be modified to make some pretty wicked numbers.
