So why would Lexus patent the names GS350 and GS460 to New Zealand...I don't know if all those abbreviations are correct then. I don't even think there are Lexi in New Zealand. I must not be getting something.

Gotta read the fine print - most of those trademark registrations are outside of NA.

For the folks who don't get the obvious, US = US, CA = Canada, EU = western Europe, CZ = Czech Republic - they must have some funny rules there especially now that they are part of EU, AU = Australia, NZ = New Zealand, DE = Germany, etc.

The addition of the IS350 does not automatically mean the next IS will be IS350 - Lexus still has the IS300 name to use.
Actually CZ stands for Switzerland not Czech Republic, they are part of EU. All these TMs have been registered via Madrid Protocol process so it automaticlly applies to all the selected regions and countries that are within it (I think around 65 countries total).

And yes Lexus is coming out with the diesel IS220d. The best selling Lexus overseas will get even hotter.
I wonder how quiet it will be knowing that small displacment diesels are not refined.

What's a JX? I never heard of anything like that. Is it LF-X?

As noted in the right-most column of the list, the JX will be a Sequoia-based SUV, larger than the Land Cruiser-based LX.
The JX is definitely not the LF-X since the LF-X is car-based while JX is not.

BTW, by registering the IS250 in the US it looks like Lexus is entering the sub-$30k market in the US, unless they're gonna use MB/BMW's pricing on C230K and 325i.

Not good for Lexus' image IMHO since $30k is still considered the minimum price that a luxury car should cost in the US.

I agree too, but even the 4 cylinder 200hp TSX is $27-29K MSRP. From what I've heard, the IS250 is a 6 with >200+hp, so my guess is it should be right at the $30K mark.

Not likely IMO. The base IS300 sits right at the $30k mark today.
If the new IS250 is priced at $30k people will get the sense that they're getting less for the same money.

So you think it would be priced at or below the 4 cylinder TSX then ?

BTW, my guess is the IS250 will beat or at least match the performance of the current IS300, plus equipped with more new gadgets, so it isn't so bad that it's the same price as the current IS300.

I agree. If it's a 2.5L V6 (Like the 1jz was a 2.5L I6) and it's making over 200 hp it's power will be right there with the current IS and odds are it'll have more advancements standard on it. Also, the lighter weight will make it most likely handle better and be a little more fun to throw around in the corners. I think the key here though is that it has to be a 6 cylinder engine. Lexus won't get by pricing a 4 banger starting at 30, no way.

You got a few things a bit off there. CH is for Switzerland. How do I know - I live there!!! And BTW CH is not part of EU. Look at any map of EU and you'll see an island in the middle of it - that's Switzerland.

Sorry I was referring to Czech Republic as being a part of EU. That's why I got confused and tought that Switzerland is CZ cause they are not part of the EU. Well I guess this has nothing to do with EU itself but rather the copyright law that lists all the western Europe countires under EU. Czech at the time wasn't under EU flag I guess.

Sorry for the mix up and my apologies to all the Swiss people I do have a lot of friends in Switzerland, they come visit me from time to time here in South Florida. I have never been in Switz before but I heard it's a cool place. I'll go one day.

Well, just keep in mind that Lexus has always been undercutting the prices of MB/BMW's offerings with engines of similar displacements. With C230K and 325i starting at $30k, I just don't see how Lexus will price the IS250 at also $30k.

To the perception of the regular people, an IS"250" is simply "less" than an IS"300" and there'll be simply no way they'll pay the same amount of money for something "less", particularly when it's right in the name.

yeah i agree but at the same time i dont think lexus would go under 30 K for the IS250. it's a paradox. lexus should keep the 3.0 as a base engine and then 3.5. IS300 and Is350 would make much sense then IS250 and IS350. after all, honda accord base or toyota camry base come with 2.4 liters engine and i am quite sure that they will bump the displacement in near future. then lexus will have smaller engine than the camry? just my.02cents
