I was betting on the mustang to win. It's really priced low. You can get a V8 0-60 5.1sec for $23K

While the 300C is techincally a 2005 model and qualifies for the 2005 COTY title, its novelty is starting to wear off a little now....despite continuing strong sales. I think the new Mustang is going to eclipse it in the actual marketplace next year.....we're going to see 1964 all over again.

Even today....though the 300C clearly is an impressive car...no question about that..... (I've seen and test-driven it), it cannot compare in build quality with many Japanese nameplates.

In all honesty, the car does have a certain presence to it. Its not a bad looking car at all. It looks like an expensive car even though it isnt. I think it deserves the award.

Here's some of the competition:
Acura RL
Audi A6
BMW 6 series
Chevy Corvette
Ford Mustang
Ford Five Hundred
MB SLK
Porsche 911
Scion tC
Not bad when you easily beat these contenders.

Like mmarshall, I also gave up on MT. I don't bother reading the articles, I just skim the pages for pictures.

Like MMarshall, my subscription did not get renewed either. Motor Trend, not sure what their angle is. It seems if you want your car to have a fast time, call them, they'll print it.
Looking at the competitors, we might like other cars more but no car has been as a big a hit as the 300C. The Tc has revived the small coupe market but not revolutioned it. The Vette comes close, IMO. For 45k again, nothing is close.
I wish they kept the Import and COTY instead of just one. The Lexus GS won in 1998 when it revolutionized the luxury sports sedan. We'll see how the new one fares next year. I wish they brought the GS hybrid at the same time to give it more of an advantage.

Pole Position
Motor Trend screwed up!
On the cover of their Jan 05 issue they mention that the car of the year is a 'domestic' winner & they said "And America builds the winner".........for the record, that is incorrect. The Chrysler 300 & the Dodge Magnum are built in Brampton, Ontario.......Not the U.S. Just wanted to clear that up & I have also sent MT the same e-mail. No offence to anyone.......just wanted to get the facts straight is all.
