What you posted was a 929, not a Millenia. The 929 was rear-drive....and I remember it had a jumpy throttle, so it spun its rear tires easily on a slick surface......Mazda had not yet started using Traction Control.

It was a nice car ( typical driver-oriented Mazda handling ) but not built quite to Lexus standards....the bodies were not as rattle and creak-free as a Lexus, and the transmissions were not as smooth. Probably the Millenia's best feature....and something that the public just never really caught on to....was the Miller-Cycle engine on the S model making 210 HP..which was not bad for the time.
Yes, I've test driven the Millenia S & it's indeed a very nice car, I think it deserves a better fate than it did.

Thing is......we'll never really know how it would have sold as an Amati. Ford was cheap with the purse-strings and pulled the plug on Amati before it could really get going....so it ended up with the Mazda nameplate instead. Same with the Toyota Avalon. It was originally meant to be a Lexus, but Toyota management decided to shift it to Toyota and make it the flagship instead.

In the case of the Avalon, I'm glad it's a Toyota Not implying that it isn't a nice, well-built car tho.

That is the exact same car my sister has. We have had 2. My mother wrecked the first but came out without a scratch (totaled). I've taken the car to 130mph, the V-6 pulls hard. It does handle like a caddy though, light steering and at high speeds, watch out.
But it is very spacious and the interior is distinctive and with the wood, classy.
I almost bought a Millinia instead of the ES 8 years ago. COultn't get the S, so I drove the 170hp, 2.5 V-6 models and omg, it was SO SLOW. It took 3 seconds for anything to happen with your foot on the pedal. The interior again was nice, different and much roomier than the ES.
MMarshall is correct with the 929 figures.

Well, at 250K you and your family certainly got your money's worth out of it....it didn't owe you guys one more penny. Even some Toyota and Honda products don't go 250K...especially if they are not cared for properly.

MMarshall is correct with the 929 figures.
Hey Sick, I remembered you saying your family had one too.

I also remember how FLOATY that car was at speed. I thought it was just my dad's alignment or something. Makes a stock GS feel like a BMW. Did those cars have an independant rear end?

Did you ever notice they have a strange powerband too?
