Default World record for burning a clutch out on a brand new car

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=111714

Apparently he said he knew how to drive a manual. I believe him but the Evo is no regular 5-speed. It was rush hour traffic and he was doing a dealer trade that was about 80 miles away. Bumper to bumper traffic all the way. He said every time he let his foot off the cultch the engine would cut off. So he keeps the clutch depressed the whole way there.

This is also a reminder to all though's who are considering purchasing a New Evo how important it is to get one with the lowest miles possible.

We had to replace the entire clutch assembly including flywheel.
Here is the official record

2 Hours and 50 miles

Dosen't make sense, though......unless I'm missing something here.
While the weakness of the early-production Evo's clutch and transmission is well-known, if this guy kept the pedal depressed most of the time, seems to me it wouldn't be the clutch disc, lining, and pressure-plate torn up......it would be the throw out bearing.

Somebody please correct me here if I'm wrong.

if it was half engage to get him down the road 50 to 80 miles, it would tear everything all to hell.

you are corrected

^OLT: the internet droid!

LOL

on a more serious note, if thats the clutch, anybody care to guess what the tranny fliud looked like?

and to the guy in the EVO forum that said the tranny would be fried...try again. in addition to the clutch serving the cruical function of sending the poer from engine to tranny, it also serves as a saftey mechanisim, to keep from frying the tranny on occasions such as this.

bottom line, 9x out of 10, the clutch blows before the tranny ever sees any harm.

Yes, that's true...........that much slipping for that long would seriously overheat it. You'd think he would have smelled it burning.

haha man this is hilarious. i don't know, but imho if someone says he/she knows how to drive stick shift, then no matter how hard a ca's clutch is, he/she should still be able to adjust the driving to drive that damn car.... both me and my wife drive stick, and maybe the first 2 3 mins we have to adjust to a new car, but after that it's all fun....

within 3 hours and completely burned the whole clutch assembly, that guy is nothing but retarded
