Default Ferrari "We Won't go the AMG way of things"/997 wins Performance car of the Year

In this months car, they drive the new F430, which they say is the now the best Ferrari though it is the entry level one (200k is entry level ).
One engineer did not say what he wanted to say but the jest was "we have engines that are in cars that don't deserve them".
The next guy said simply "We will not go the AMG route of doing things". We will not be in the German power war. We are about balance, weight and power.

Ferrari considers themselves to have no true competitor btw. And slowly they have replaced Lamborghini as simply my favorite brand (other than Lexus of course).

Also in CAR the 997 911 was chosen as "Performance car of the year" beating out the CL 65, Noble, even the 996 911 RS, Morano (out GTO), the Elise and others. They said they think the car is perfect and not sure how making the car a turbo could make it better.

You gotta love the Italian elitist attitude. Scoffing at 65 AMGs and 5xx hp Lambos but hey, they can do it. I agree with them though, sleeper luxo cars are great, but true performance cars are about balance and they consistently have the complete package. Good for them, and props to the 911. Quite a car in its own right!

Exactly the same question crossed my mind when I had a ride in a 997 Carrerra S a couple of weeks ago. How on earth can they make this better?????

Unfortunately, the pursuit has now become passionate and no longer relentless.

yea, i'm a bit disappointed in how some Lexuses came out, the RX330 looks like a Hollister/Roxy chick car now!

oh sick, join my group man. ferrari has always been my favorite dream car brand, it's just insane. lambo, they are nice, but i never really like them.

and the f430... what can i say and i have to agree, having decent power is good and enough. having all the balance and engineering is the most important

I may join man. The Countach was my fav as a kid and the Diablo extended that. I have grown to love the Miura. But Ferrari has dropped many more cars than Lambo. You have to respect that. Lambo has just 2 cars. Ferrari seems to always be updating and trying to improve. My fav is the 360 Stradale.

Yup, Ferrari might be #1 unofficially in my book.

Ferrari designs.

Also guys, since we're talking exotics, check out the specs on the Pagani Zonda:

http://www.paganiautomobili.it/

The Zonda was designed by Horacio Pagani, a former designer for Lamborghini. It has a 7.3 liter, 550 hp, V12 Mercedes engine boasting F1 technology in a carbon fiber/aluminum mid-engine car weighing 2800 lbs.

Only about $500k...

oh yeah, the countach was nice, i saw that car and it's one insane ride, but that's about t. you are right that lambo has been pretty quiet and boring with TWO cars... you gotta be kidding me. ferrari is always improving, taking out new models, and it's very refreshing. that's what i like

Only ferrari that appeals to me is the 360. It is absolutely beautiful. No question about it. Personally I would never own a ferrari. Even If I Could afford it. I think they are poorly built cars from a maintenance point of view. I would rather own an Aston Martin DB9 or Bentley Continental Coupe or even an High-end MB(CL65,Maybach,SLR).

the CL/SL65 Is no suprize. The reason its not as fast as it should be is because mercedes did not address the traction issue. All the reveiws i've read (maybe 3-4 of them) say the same thing. On paper it should be astronomically faster then the SL600 but isn't because of traction issues.

Yay 911.
Yay Ferrari.
I still think the murci roadster is sex on wheels.

I agree the 360 is the most beautiful Ferrari, but I think it's questionable that the rest of the cars you listed are really that much better from a maintainence point of view.

from what i read, mb they don't really focus on the off the stop of their amg. they care more about pickup speed
