CL65 AMG vs. Cobra race vids
#16
Here's one way to look at it:
The Big Benz weighs in at 4,494 lbs, and has 604 hp. That's 7.44lbs/hp
The Cobra probably weighs around 3600lbs, and lets guess that it's making 500 hp. That's 7.2 lbs/hp. And these are VERY likely numbers, as it doesn't take much to get the 4.6s pumping out some serious horsepower. And they have fully forged internals strait from SVT. It's an impressive car for the money.
That weight advantage coupled with what sounded like some quick shifts could equal a fast car.
I think we're probably overlooking the Benz' weight disadvantage. The latest Car and Driver points out that the SL600 is actually FASTER than the SL65 to 60mph (3.6 vs 3.8) and the SL65 rounds out the 1/4 in 11.9 seconds.

With power to weight ratios so even, don't under estimate the efficency of a manual tranny. The only negative was shown in the second video, and that's hooking up out of the whole. It takes a fine balance of clutch and throttle.
I had an old(1985) notchback N/A ford stang with a 300hp crate motor and five speed and it ran 12.80. So add 200 hp to that and there you go

Past 60mph, that may very well be. But up until it reaches that speed, traction is an issue. It wears the same size tires as the SL600.

The SL65 is nevertheless a very impressive car. There aren't very many 11 second whisper quiet cars out there. Not to mention, it's gorgeous. Major props to Merc!

These are 2 totally different cars with different purposes. It seems like the kid with the Stang wants to compare his low-dollar pony machine to a top dollar Luxo Cruiser....
And imo, the CL65 lives up to its HP/Torque figures. It's fast and quick as the magazines said it would be.
The Mustang Cobra has always been a high performance mahine. And I'm also impressed with what Ford has done to the Current Cobra. Sutble looks and mad power.
Nice Vids though...always good to see how those sub $180K supercars perform on the street

And I don't think the Cobra had slicks-If he did he would have slingshot out of the hole instead of "roastin em"

damn i can't beleive the results, it just doesn't make any sense to me... the cobra is fast, but the cl65 should win regardless, that car is just so much faster... maybe the car really isn't broken in or something, this is so weird...
and there is no traction problem. on the freeway run, you punch it and it's going already. and yes, up till 60 maybe they are about the same (but the cl65 will still win over the cl600 and cl55), but after that, the cl65 is a pure rocket. that's the beauty of these machines, the large displacement with massive tq and power makes the high end of the car incredibly fast. it's even in the enzo category
so sad man

It had a brand new SVO GT-40 crate motor
