MoFunk, I got a bit of an insight into why, from a workmate who has transferred to the US office of our company. He said his pay was double what his Australian pay was, in US$ (so close to 3x what he earned in Aust - for the same job), then the cost of living is much lower than here (plus some of these guys might live at home with the parents).
Finally, cars are MUCH cheaper there. I doubt these guys have to pay US$60k for an IS300 like we do. We have alot of taxes on our cars here, and as a result, second hand cars are more expensive here too..
After what this guy told me, i really want to move there too. Australia is nice, but think of the cars!!!
BTW, I'm 25, i drive a '94 Accord which was a regretful step down from my '92 Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC400)

23 and I own an 2003 LS430.
To answer MoFunk...it's because, unfortunately, most American's, especially young ones, live WAY above their means. This country is drowning in debt. The other major reason is leasing. $700/mo cars magically become $350 a month with leasing. The only problem? You don't own the car. It's a rental. :-/
