Ah, your lucky. It never snows down here in Houston. It gets in the 30s occasionally but no snow or sleet. How far are you from Plano?

Snow and ice are uncommon but not rare in the DFW area. When a so-called Texas "Blue Norther"...a strong, rapidly-moving cold front.....moves south with cold, dry Canadian air and collides with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, snow showers, ice storms and even widespread organized winter storms from low-pressure systems can develop over the state. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes can form in the warm air on the surface boundary between these two contrasting air masses. If you think DFW is bad, try spending a winter in the Northwest Texas Panhandle out on the High Plains...up around Amarillo and Lubbock. Blue Northers there can bring below-zero temperatures, high winds, and blizzard conditions.

Good lord man, is there anything you don't know!?

Anywho, yes I think we're slated for snow coming up this weekend, possibly the 26th.

James

You're right, Henry..............snow in the L.A. basin IS unusual...even rare. It happens only when cold, dry Canadian Continental Polar air masses are blocked by a strong and abnormal jet stream from their usual south and southeastward path, east of the Rockies, across the central and eastern parts of the country and are instead diverted southwestward across the Rockies, Cascades, and Sierra Nevadas into California, interacting with Pacific moisture. It is pretty unusual....something you do NOT see very often. When that happens, we are usually very warm here in the East...much above normal.

I lived in Texas (Austin) for a while as a teenager, Jim. I saw the weather there first-hand.

And...don't forget.....you guys can put me to shame with computer skills.
