which do you prefer? i know, apples to oranges! i was pretty much decided on a 997S and the local dealers are trying to locate the one i want right now. however, i stopped by the mercedes dealership tonite and was checking out the E55. nice looking sedan. i havent driven one but i kow they are fast in a straight line. i would imagine the porsche would be more enjoyable to drive. i have to admit hameeds thread really peaked my interest in the new 911's. so which car gets your vote? i think the porsche is the flashier of the 2. the E55 would probably look the same as a E320 to most people. not that that really matters but it does
anyway, no wife and no kids, so the extra doors and room dont really matter. by the way, i think the E55 has better resale value. thoughts???

If it's the 997 Carrera S against the E55, that is a simple choice. THE AMG!!!!! duuuuuuh. Not only is it better on paper but it certainly handles alot better than the 997 i drove.
But but but, if you move that up to a 997 Turbo or better yet a Turbo S than the porsche wins out!!! But since i think we're comparing via prices... take it up to the C4S then i would take that over the E55. the C4S's handling is incredible and just sticks to the ground.

my vote is for the E55.. Beautiful interior, exterior, 4 doors, and it can still smoke about 90% of all sports cars... Like Red said, everyday driver = E55, weekend driver = 911s
BTW: these are two of my favorite cars....

room/comfort/speed..E55
one of the most fun car..911 lives..
if you need a 4-door beast, get the E55..if you already have a fast 4-dr..get the 911..sorry 997..i would prefer wide-body

the e55 is definitely easier to drive, but if you can stand the more bumper ride, i think the 911 may be a better choice for you, since you don't have wife or kids.
for me (wife no kids), i still prefer a big car first and then small car. that's why the gs4 was a no brainer. and that allowed us to get the sc430. same situation

I have been in a 997S and the ride is definitely NOT bumpy or uncomfortable whatsoever. My GS400 with the Tein Flex at its softest setting feels exactly the same as the 997S in comfort mode. Yes, that is NOT a typo, nor am I imagining things.
for the 997S's amazing chassis. Incredible stability in whatever road conditions.
If I could get rid of my GS400 and buy a 997S I would do so in a heartbeat. The only drawback of a 997S (which is not really a drawback considering that it is a dedicated 2 door sports car) is that it has a very small trunk. Otherwise there is no comparison. Other than that kids that are about 16 years old or 5 ft 6 inches can easily fit in the rear seats of a 997S. Trust me, I know what I am talking about - my nephews sat in the back of a 996 C4 when I took that for a test drive.
I think what you need to decide is whether you want a dedicated sports car - handling, stick shift, light weight or want a boosted 4 door car (E55 AMG) that weighs almost a 1000 lbs more than a 997S with more trunk space and will definitely not be able to hang with a 997 S in the twisties. To me it is a no brainer - get the 997S. The interior fit and finish is absolutely amazing - very high quality plus if you are buying new, the Porsche has infinite customization options. You can get it in whatever exterior and interior color you want. From wood and leather to aluminum and leather - your choice.
Plus no wife and no kids???? Why are you even considering a 4 door sedan? Drive both and I guarantee you will get the 997S.
As far as resale value goes, Porshce's resale value is very high and they are very reliable cars. Porsche's are the only german cars these days that are reliable.
