Toyota Announces Outline of Lexus Dealer Network in Japan
Dec 22, 2004
Tokyo - Toyota has released an outline of the dealer network for its Lexus brand, to be introduced to Japan in August 2005.
Toyota states the Lexus brand aims to be "a new global premium brand for the 21st century" responsive to the growing number of customers who place more emphasis than in the past on a "sense of the best" and individuality. It will provide high-quality products and an unparalleled purchasing experience and after-sales service.
In order to achieve this, Toyota will establish 180 Lexus specialty dealers nationwide. When the Lexus brand launches in Japan in August 2005, 140 such dealers will go into operation. By the end of 2005 the Lexus brand dealer network will comprise 150 dealers.
The high-quality product lineup will initially comprise the GS, SC and IS vehicle series, with the LS vehicle series to be available from the summer of 2006.

man, that's a lot of dealerships, sounds like toyota is doing a huge launch in japan! i guess they have grown soooo big in japan that they have no problem completely separating the two brands in one shot.
it's going to be exciting, that lexus is going to be totally on their own soon!

Here's my question. I'm sure you guys know the answer to this, but Japan plans to introduce the Lexus line with the GS, SC and IS vehicle series. How does that work?
- Will there STILL be any Toyota Aristo/Soarer/Altezza after Lexus is up & running?
- If not, will Lexus cost more for the 2005 Lexus nameplate when compared to the 2005 Toyota nameplates?
- Will the cars be identical as they were when they were Toyotas? For example, will they name the Aristo V300 the Lexus GS V300 or something? Will they have the same powerplant as the Toyotas once did (FI) or will they have the USA powerplants?
Once the Lexus line comes out, do you think there would would be a lot of re-badging of older Toyotas to new Lexus by the Toyota owners. Or do you think the newer Lexus owners may want to follow old traditions and re-badge their cars back to Toyotas?

2. Only b/c of the yen. Lexus always tries to enter the market at "shockingly good" low prices.
3. Lexus is global. No more Toyota/Aristro. The only Lexus that will become a LExus is the SC 430, which is sold as the SOarer now. Otherwise, the next GS and IS will debut at Lexus all over the globe.
4. Rebadging to Lexus is already popular in Japan, this will probably continue.

And it looks like it says 3.5L I (as in inline) then some characters I assume say 6. I thought the I6 was gone across the Toyota line up with exception to the IS until it gets a remodel.
