Well... the website is based in Minnesota I'm not sure where this actually is.

I saw that earlier this week.....I was told it was in Colorado !? Regardless, some 'high end' cars crashed in that video.......Jag, Mercedes.....these people ae suppose to STEER their vehicles out of the way.....instead, they froze & just helo onto the steering wheel I have NEVER seen someone 'bail' out of their car like a couple people did on the video......most stupidest thing I've ever seen.......the one women almost got hit by the Mercedes SUV after wards! IF your about to go over a cliff....fine......bail out for sure, but that was just plain bonehead!

Saw that on the news several times said it was in Denver Colorado, the bailing out of the cars is nuts, the girl sitting on the ground and then the Mercedes Truck just missing her was scary, could have ended really bad, I can't believe some of those people thought they could hold onto the ground to stop the car.

Thats not snow thats ICE, look at the M Class sliding forward with the tires turned to the left, on ice you got nothing

Wait you guys don't bail out before you stop the car? That must be a Minnesota thing, I mean, theres a 5 mph bumper for a reason. Whenever I park my car in the driveway I just bail and let it crash into the garage door. It just makes more sense that way.

But Seriously those people are RETARDED your going to get more hurt jumping out then just staying in the damn car.

It would be funny if the Insurance Companies did not cover the people that bailed out the owners would be like why not, and the agent would be like well your suppost to be behind the wheel of the vehicle, we have you on video

Okay I'm a bit confused.

Some of those higher end cars like the Jag and M class SUV should have ABS brakes, but when you see the video, there is absolutely nothing but the wheels locked up solid. Now correct me if i am wrong, but aren't ABS brakes designed to help you STEER out of the situation? Did I miss something?

On ice, all bets are off. Seeing as how it's basically a friction-less surface, even ABS isn't going to stop the cars. Also, the ML for example weighs over 4000 pounds, going even only at 15mph that's a lot of momentum.

Correct....the only way you are going to stop in a reasonable distance on a really slick surface like ice, ABS or not, is with studded tires....and many places don't allow them.
People have to understand that ABS does NOT necessarily shorten stopping distances. It cannot overrule the laws of physics and give a tire more traction that the rubber compound in the tire is capable of. ALL it can do, and NO MORE, is prevent the wheels from locking up, thus keeping the car from sliding and giving the driver some steering capability while braking. But even in steering, the ABS system will not give the tires any more cornering ability on ice either...it all is dependent on the tire's limits. So, even with ABS, you cannot steer too sharply either because the tires still can slide sideways even though the ABS will not allow them to lock up going straight ahead. (That is where the electronic stability systems take over, if the car has them)
