umm.... ok, i might be taking this wrong, but about teh prices.....
from 00 to 03, the ls430 lost about 26k (which is about 53% of the price of the car), but the 745 lost almost 33k, which is about 55%. what makes the bimmer better in that sense?

good point..but only if ur buying the car brand new..i bought mine w/ 5k miles on it..so the original owner took a hit..so i agree, but at the same time what i got and the depreciation works out for me...

I tried posting this before but the thread was closed at this time so I sent to aldo23 in PM, but I'd like to state my feedback on his original post:
Apparently you still do. You were in the "how can I find anything to justify the decision I've already made?" mode.
No you don't.
The LS430 UL has perforated leather - sounds like you didn't drive the UL.
They're not on the floor, they're on the side of the seat which is reasonable because they're really secondary controls, not primary because once you've set them and memorized them you'll use the more conveniently located memory button controls instead.
A really thoughtful genius in fact. Passenger controls are on the seat side, just like yours, but ADDITIONAL seat controls are on the shoulder inside area for the DRIVER to CONVENIENTLY adjust the seat. Great if you have a child or someone elderly or whatever getting into the passenger seat.
Compared to the 7 series? You've got to be joking. I've been in both and the 7 series wood looked terrible. But each to their own.
It's different to the 7 yes, not as recessed, but you really found it hard to see?
How do they compare to the 7?
Since the car had '0 miles' they may have been in the 'winter' position which is raised to avoid them getting frozen into place.
I agree the handling comes NOWHERE CLOSE to the 7 series with or without a sport package. Lexus is in dire need of a real active suspension.
I'm very surprised - it seemed super quiet to me.
How big are you!? [I now see you're 6'3"] - I'm 6'3" and had ZERO problems getting in the back even with the front all the way back.
I agree even though the BMW stalk is unusual, it's better.
A cheap shot indeed. Hard to say how cheap not knowing how much dealer profit you'd already negotiated away.
The 7 series is a very capable vehicle. Personally I don't like its looks and I think the iDrive design, while "Bauhaus minimalist" is overly complex and inefficient. But it does drive and handle great. I hope you continue to enjoy it, but I think you walked into the Lexus dealer looking for any excuse right or wrong to bash the LS.
i had this monkey on my back.
i was annoyed from the get go that all the doors dont unlock, i actually had to go into the car to let my wife in..already 1 down
when i got inside i sat in the so-called leather, didnt excite me as much as i anticipated, considering my leather is perforated in a light brown interior.
the next negative was the seat adjusments, they were on the floor, well thats where i felt it considernig that in the BMW its to my right w/ a little joystick and diagram.
as for the wife theres 2 sets of controls one on the bottom right, and the front & back adjusment is to the left shoulder on her seat, whos the genius that came up w/ that.
The interior wood looked cheap, to my opinion
The funny thing is the navigation is hard to see in the sun b/c of the postition, in the bmw its hidden inside the dash.
the speed gauges are cheap looking compared to the sweet gauges on the GS.
even the wind-shield wipers dont hide under the hood like the bimmer, and they look cheap, and this is a 65-70k car.
if i turn the wheel at 35mph, i felt like i was going to fly out of the car, or off the road for that matter.
acceleration was good, but i was surprised on the wind noise, very overrated, i heard everything at 100mph, even wind from the sunroof.
anyways, i pulled over, went to the backseat thinking i would have room if ur sitting behind me, not even, i had to squeeze myself in the chair.
the BMW has the drive on the steering wheel, at 1st i dint like it, but once u get used to the arm room, i enjoy it more that the usual set-up.
i also threw in a cheap shot, i said" if u guys would of sold me the car for what i wanted i would of bought the car, but u did me that favor and allowed me to go somewhere else." they lost me for a measley $1000.

you guys see it all wrong..why would i bash a company that i previously own ..please..thats just unfortunate..the seat like ive said b4 , not the floor but on the bottom of the seats..like every other toyota, the leather was nice but not as nice as the leather on mine which enables me to move the bottom of my seat..well it elongates it..i dont need the seat adjustments for passengers on the the passengers left side, b/c i have it memorized to move ahead if some1 needs to sit i just push the memory2 on the passenger side(i love the idea of BMW & Benz w/ the diagram of the seat at vision level)..the handling, you didnt mention that, b/c my handling is hands down better..so dont even try..the idrive is so easy , yea you gotta take a class, but every morning my car seats are warm as well as my car b/c i have a timer setting it off..everything works if u know what ur doing...just read the manual...its got the laser cruise control which lexus has as well, but here i can adjust the distance on when the car should break(i dont remeber how it was on the Lexo)...the wind noise, was the most shocking, i thought lexus blew every1 out of the water...my gauges are so much nicer(LS really look cheap, please give me that1), even the led red (BMW)lights for every single gadget, it illuminates red, pretty nice, but im sure every1 will say, "so what"..the auto trunk closer is awesome..regardless, im sure u love ur car, and thats great..but the UL LS430, just wasnt a better car at the time...and TRUST me, i had consumer report, JD magazines explaining this car is the best...i went in there w/ my tag removed ready to make the switch..but i just couldnt..i personally had the better car at this moment..so thats why the monkey is off my back. b4 purchasing the car, majority of you guys explained the car was the 2nd coming..
ill just wait off until they redesign it..and move on from there..

Enjoy your new car, sounds like you really wanted one (at times when the emotional side wants one thing, the rational side goes crazy on the less wanted thing! LOL)
Just make sure you lower the hell out of it on those 22's. If I see a another 745 on 22s with stock suspension, I will cry!

Sorry, I know it's a cheap shot, but as a Bimmer convert I feel entitled to point that one out!

Paul more or less knocked it out of the park, so I won't go there.
But, aldo23, take some time to actually format your posts. It's an absolute torture to attempt to read and decipher what you write.

Here's the thing. I don't even own a Lexus, but we can already tell from the get-go you aren't going to like the LS b/c you dropped your money somewhere else.
Most people that have made it to your stature could probably figure out how to un-lock all doors without getting into the car, auto-unlock has probably been around for 10 years at least.
Hard to believe your review over the likes of C&D etc.. (everyone prefers the LS over the 7-series as far as build quality, value, quietness, etc..basiaclly everything not having to do with spirited driving most experts prefer the LS). Now it's possible the experts are all wrong and you're all right, but not likely.
It's kind of rude (?) to come to a Lexus site and bash the car in such a way Some people would maybe tone it down a little.
As for depreciation, the LS holds it value better than most cars S-class and 7-series included. Your own data points out the 7-series lost $32,600 v $26,190 lost for the LS. Didn't know this was hard to grasp, not to mention the initial extra cost of the 7-series which you have to pay tax and interest on.
so to end this bashing, the BMW has the drive on the steering wheel, at 1st i dint like it, but once u get used to the arm room, i enjoy it more that the usual set-up. but to be honest, i do love the 6-speed automatic tronic that lexus has)..
just my 2c

hilarious...what a shame, considering this is a forum on cars not stature. So the way i formulate a paragrah or retort is how educated one might be, intresting. Or better yet, because i pick a car that you deemed lesser than your precious "pegasus". Please, i sincerely regret to tell you my education, income, assets, and what job i hold because it would embarrass some not many of you especially considering my age. It's not about paragraphs or proper diction, it's only me replying to some comments in a forum as if i was replying to an "Im" from AOL. So by all means, continue to decipher all you need to know about me b/c of the car i chose and the paragraphs i write. That attitude and judgment only shows the condesending attitude of a person who believes whatever he owns & does is better. I've met many people like that, who only follow w/ what people tell them to buy, say and act. But this is a free country and i sadly admit that i dont spell or grammar check what i write which leaves me open to criticism. which of course would make much more sense if this was a "writers ink" forum. But since i apparently made controversial statments about a car, not a person, city, or culture i presume i deserve slack. I apologize for wasting your precious time, all i wanted was opinions and i got more, for free mind you.
Like i said from the begining, simply hilarious.
I hope the format of my rebuttal was decent enough for the omnipotent ones.
And yes, i will drop the car if i put the 945HRE's, or the AVUS rims b/c of the obvious gap.

Guys, enough from everybody on the grammar lesson (and the reply to the grammar lesson).
I agree that aldo's post is very hard to read with the run-on style, etc but if it's too hard to figure out, don't read it and just ignore the post please.
Back on topic on the UL and 7 please.
