Default Buying on a budget - what would u do?

Guys,

Selling my car and have to basically put all of the money elsewhere. For right now I am only going to use about $4000 on a car. So that is what I have to spend. However, there are a couple of factors to consider -

1. I have an 18-month-old son so I need something that his car seat will fit in.

2. I need it to be somewhat reliable and function - eg heater!!

3. I will not be putting any money into this car so it has to be cool to start with. Not looking for speed - more show than go.

4. I don't want something boring eg no camry's, accord's.

I know this doesn't leave much - but if it was an easy decision then I wouldn't be posting here!!

Lemme know what u think,

Peace,
Jonny

If you want something reliable we have to stick to jap imports and im assuming you limiting yourself to 4 door cars since the sc is one of the larger 2 doors out their ....
Acura Integra GSR 4dr - hard to find but an excellent choice should run you around 4-5k w/ 130k miles
Acura 2.5 TL or legend -
Mitsubishi Galant VR4 - 4drs fast and reliable if you keep up on maintanance 4k is plenty for one of these
Toyota Avalon- probably your best bet if you like the styling
Mazda Millenia - looks good w/ blk on blk
Infinity G20 - newest one looks great but might be a little small and a little out of your price range but they have an older body style thats
Infinity I30 - basically a nissan maxima and 5sp was availiable some years

Hey man,

2 doors are fine, I just need to make sure the baby seat fits!! Usually I like 2 doors a whole lot more than 4 doors!

I have owned about 5 Legends and love them but I have not seen any within 100 miles of me that are worthwhile.

Integra - too small
Legend - big possibility ( can't afford the dreaded BHG though)
Mitsu - no way, heard horrible stories about them
Toyota Avalon - very interesting - completely forgot about them
Mazda - nope!!
Infiniti - I used to have a Q45 which I loved the power of - but expensive maintenance!

Thank you Lexusfiend, your time is much appreciated,

Peace,
Jonny

Too bad you care more about looks than speed or you could get a turbo Festiva like I daily!

Good luck with whatever you decide on.

I'm gonna have to throw in the 97-99 Maxima also. I obviously have one and I think it looks great. Its a decently safe car, modable if you want to at a later time and can be had fairly cheap. I bought mine 2 summers ago at my local Nissna dealership for 8 grand. Mine is the SE edition with Auto air, heated power leather front seats, sunroof, and bose system. It has all of the options, so honestly now you can more than likely find one for around 4 grand, with or without all of the options. If you go with a Maxima, just dont go for a 95-6 model year. They arent as safe as the 97 and up model years. They significantly added a lot of safety stuff. Volvo is also a choice, but its boxy shape might be unattractive and the resale of older models might be out of your price range.

Previous Generation Subaru Legacy.
Passat??
Millenia??

A first gen Avalon would be on the top of my 'short list'.

up your budget by like $1000-$1500 and buy a 96-97 I30. Great cars and relatively fast.

Thank you guys for all your input. Unfortunately, I am not finding too many of the cars you guys have mentioned in the $4000 price range!! They are all looking around $6000 which I can't spend right now.

I am most likely going to get a GS 400 in the next year so I just want something cheap for now. If anyone comes across any great deals please let me know. I am located in Tulsa, OK.

Thank you once again,

Peace,
Jonny

I know you said no Camry's but the 95-96 SE Coupes are pretty damn nice cars, reliable as the sun, and look pretty nice with larger wheels.
