Oh yeah surely a classic I've always liked them but never enough to buy one. I too will agree, although I do not like the new ones it does make the older one look a little dated, but isn't that the case with all cars to a degree?

Yes, M-B's of 15-20 years ago, especially the S-Class, were like bank vaults. It was probably the best mass-produced car in the world at that time, except for brakes that wore rapidly. No more. The only M-B product still left today with that kind of bank-vault construction is the Gelandewagen, or G-Wagon, which was originally a German-Austrian military vehicle introducd in the late 70's and has been domesticated.

I love the 740i/L - such a beautiful car ...

The 2001 7 series is just the epitome of class.

The Alpina on the first page is unbelievable. If only they were sold in the USA.

I find the long wheel base old 7s to be a little too out of or proportion.

The short wheel base are perferctly balanced - particularly with the 00+ update.

The interior is a little disapointing, particuarly when compared to the LS400 of the same age.

Reliability is an issue though, I had a good friend who had a 735il....if caused so much trouble he ditched it three months for an LS430. His 7 was unlocking itself when parked. He would come back to the car and it would be literally locking itself and the unlocking itself every 60 seconds. Furthermore the lights would intermitently switch themselves off and on. But I suppose we already knew this about Beamers...

Still a beautiful car though......I have thought about it, but I'm too scared!

i love the old 7 series. as far as exterior styling, they're one of my favorite luxury sedans.

If I did not have my LS I'd pick a 7 and make a monster out of it. Not only a classic looking design but also a perfect balance for handling.

E38, E39, E46 to a lesser extent, current gen XJ, previous gen XJ, W201, W124, W126, W220, W211, W203 to a lesser extent, and SC400/300 are cars that I think will look timelessly and classically beautiful for a long time to come.

dont even play with my emotions like that rom...

Only thing i dont like with the 750 is that majority of them come "protected". I got a chance to drive Steinbrenner's 750iLP and that thing is a whale... but stomp on the gas and its a wolf in sheeps clothing. those door are RIDICULOUSLY heavy! thats what happens when you have 2 inch thick windows. it would be nice to see ANY car with a 12 cyl manual... especially a sedan!

yeah very true, i don't really like the fact that almost all 750 come as vip car (in a sense of protection). if it's just another normal driver car, with that enormous v12 and the manual tranny, gosh.....

i still remember the bmw film ambush with the 740i manual... gosh, imagine driving that big of a car but still with the power and the ability to control everything, that's just sick

It still looks good to me. Timeless as in classic, not sure yet. But yes, the old 7 still looks damn good.

Yes you are correct. I just guess there are some vehicles that fight the aging process a little better. For instance when you see a SC400, it doesnt look "OLD", same with a first gen GS or Acura Legend Coupe. Espcecially in basic colors like white.

I have to also agree about the i vs il, I think the short wheelbase model looks perfect. Longer wheelbase models always remind me of a person with a ill fitted prosthetic limb! I like the 745i better than the IL, and I cant wait to see the short wheelbase A8.
