05 G35

05 G35
I've said a few times on this forum I intended to get a G35. This weekend I went to a dealership to begin the process. For me, I have to bond with the car first. If it doesn't talk to me, it may not be the right car. First, I was completely turned off by the salesmen. The first one I saw said, "this is the car of the year and is better than Lexus." He said Lexus had cheap plastic interior. I said, sir...I own 2 Lexus cars and I assure you they do not have cheap plastic interiors. The guy looked like he swallowed a pig. Then I went inside and not one salesman approached to ask if I needed any help. On to the car. I sat in the car for about 30 minutes. Feeling the dash, the doors, the carpet, etc. Then I walked around the car over and over. To be honest, I was not impressed. After close inspection, I don't like the headlights. I heard the 05 interior was much improved. Looked cheap to me. The lines aren't as sexy as I thought. The paint not as quality as I thought. It wasn't calling to me. There was no bonding. I was so happy to get back in my SC300. Quality. Luxury. Sexy. Just as new looking as when new. Now I don't know what to do. There is no other coupe out there that interests me. Except maybe the bimmer 645. Which is moe than I want to pay...especially when there might be reliability issues. 350z looks too small. RX8....sometimes I like it....sometimes I don't. GTO...I swore off american. Bimmer 3 series...also looks too small. I may get the G35 just because there isn't a better choice. Dare I say it...SC430!

I wouldn't recommend buying a G35. Wait a few years and you can buy yourself a GTR.
I never understood why Nissan decided to put a V6 into the Skyline. A step down from the R34s. L6 is a great design for an engine.

Anywho, both are great cars, but if there are some aspects you don't like, well, that's the beauty of capitalism. Competition breeds more and eventually better choices for all of us. Hang in there, eventually you'll find something that floats your boat.

I also had a horrible experience with Infiniti dealership and salesperson.
First, the dealership. I walk in there, it looks like absolute CRAP inside. Has a G35c, sedan, FX35, QX56, and I35 in there on display. BTW Q45 nowhere to be seen. The atmosphere of the place is that you just walked in to buy a USED car not a LUXURY car.
Second, the salesperson. All of them are wearing JEANS. I had to think to myself WTF is going on here??? Are u trying to sell luxury cars here dressed like u work in a fastfood place? Every Lexus salesperson i ever saw always was wearing a suit. So far I wasn't too impressed.
Third, the car. Overall its OK. Exterior is attractive, but it doesn't make me wanna say "Damn i want that car." i still think my GS looks MUCH nicer and classier. The interior was cheap compared to Lexus, but not that bad.............Is it worth 38k with the options I want? Im not convinced yet, but i haven't test driven it yet.
Fourth, the sales experience. These are the questions im asked: What car do u own? Why do u want the G35c? What other cars r u considering? Why would even want to consider other cars? What dealerships do u visit or will visit? etc........
So far i have heard ZERO info from this guy regarding the car. Such as features, options, etc. I basically told him, what is the price for the car and i had to tell him the options available? His response: How much do u want to pay for it? At this point, i had no intention of doing business with this guy at all.
Infiniti has to learn that it takes A LOT MORE to be a LUXURY car company than just building nicer cars. Service, Prestige, Appearance, etc. are also factors.

About the jeans, yeah, maybe it was like a casual Friday or something. I agree that it's more of a Chevy or Ford thing to do, not because I'm trying to be snobby, but because at the DC auto show, there was one American car company (Chevy, I think) that had their salesmen/product specialists walking around in uniforms of black jacket and blue jeans.

I know you said you swore off american cars (i'm not an american car fan myself) but have you looked into the new corvette? I think its pretty much the best bang for your buck out right now. It's numbers are pretty impressive. It'll beat a Porsche 911 Carrera and just about be equal with a Ferrari F430. I know it's out of the price bracket of a G35, but if you're considering a SC430, I seriously recommend the vette.
