You are likely to have electronic problems with almost any newer European car, but if you decide you MUST have a Euro-nameplate, especially a high-performance one, look at the Audi S-series or Volvo R-series.....they are a little more reliable than M-B's or Bimmers and have the benefits of All-Wheel-Drive.

Before you buy any of the above, however, check out the 2005 Legacy / Outback Turbo...or non-turbo versions if you don't need the power. I think you will be amazed at the fit-and-finish of this car inside and out for the money. It is totally unlike any previous Subaru product ever sold here....essentially a Lexus at a Subaru price.
Very well put! I am a former owner of the MB S-Class which was close to a nightmare. Had to replace all 4 rotors(Megabux), Blaupunkt audio system was always screwing up the CD's, etc.
The only thing I had to do to my 95 LS400 was to replace the aluminum wheels with chrome ones, change the oil, and go. My current LX is simply a jewel compared to the MB or BMW products.
Go with your heart as long as it's set on the new GS.

You want dumpy, here, the 2006 BMW 330i:

Basically a subdued 7 series int. with less bells and whistles.

I can't understand why all the automakers are using the indash cup holders. Those things are terrible from my experiences. If you manage to spill anything sticky on them and close the door, forget trying to get it to open properly next time. Cleanability was definitely not on their mind when they designed that. I think many of the "luxury" items added to cars are added by designers rather that more practical minded engineers. As an engineer, I know I would have told them "Uhhh..no. Think about what would happen if you had your hot cup of cawfee and slammed on the brakes. You really want the chance of hot, sticky fluids going into the dash with all those electronics?!?"
