The problem that I see is that the guy parked next to the house rather than further up or back in the driveway. That way when the ice slid off the roof it would have only hit the concrete and not the car.

Whoever parked it there was an idiot. And if it was the owner, I hate to say he deserved it.
That's a complete tragedy and it could have been avoided with common sense. A car like that should not even be in those conditions, much less parked under an avalanche.
