we don't have a sunoco here in fresno, cali. I like chevron the best, but the are so expensive. I switch from chevron to mobil and sometimes costco back and forth.

I use Chevron.

Chevron is the only gasoline company that can claim Top Tier Detergent Gasoline by major manufacturers...here's the proof:
http://www.chevrontexaco.com/news/pr...2004-06-17.asp

No other Gasoline company can claim that.

Here is an interesting link to the huge Standard Oil and what happened to it:

flipside, check out Quik Trip gasoline. Top Tier rating as well. Also, Phillips uses a very similar rating system that is the same.

Also, almost all of your gas comes from the SAME PIPELINE!!!! (well the Modern Marvels story was almost right)

Depending on where you live the gas I have here in Tulsa is the same as the gas in Michigan.

It all varies on the different additives, detergents, octane levels, etc. your favorite gas station adds.

Shell is the only independent pipeline opperator(I think) that has their own line strait from the Gulf. The rest for the most part, is shared. There is a pipeline that splits here in Tulsa and feeds the Western part of the USA. Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Cali. Nevada, Southern and Central Utah. That our Cali. boys and girls are using,,

Each state, county, city has their own levels of performance, for instance, the 87 octance I use here is only 1.75 right now, and it is prob. about 1.97ish in Cali? You have to calculate sending it there, the added CARB crap you guys have (its all a rip I tell ya) and taxes, and all the other good stuff Uncle Sam likes to add to it. Oh, do me a favour and support Arnold in appealing the current CARB regulations, I think he is wanting to rewrite them. (I think)

This information has prob. changed in the past 5 years (with reguards to pipeline ownership) I haven't kept current. But, for the most part the bottom line is this.

The gas I use here in Oklahoma, irreguardless of octane, is the same up in NYC.

Josh.

P.S. In case you are wondering, Petrol. and Energy management are my majors.

I agree w/you. My friend works as a process operator at what was once Atlantic Richfield Co. and now swallowed up by British Petroleum here in SoCal. I stick to one gas brand. I refuse to use lower quality brands like Arco and etc since the detergents in my opinion are subpar to the Techron additive that Chevron is known for. Call it a marketing gimmick if you want, non of my vehicles experience ping/knock with Chevron fuels, and all my vehicles are maintained regularly and very well. I switch to a cheap discount brand and the pinging is evident, especially w/the high compression 2JZ-GE 10.5:1 c/r on my IS300.

I was hoping I wasn't the only one that had heard of Quiktrip. That's the only thing I put in my car. . .

Hy Vee has started putting up gas stations on their properties to lure consumer into "killing two birds with one stone" by providing gas in the same location they pick up their groceries. The only thing is that, for the time being, Hy Vee doesn't care about turning a profit. My friend, who is a QuikTrip rep, says this a huge conern for our surrounding gasoline stations, especially QT.

Josh - What are your thoughts on competing gas brands in your area (probably similar to my area).

In response to the QT thing.

Here in Tulsa QT has a firm, and I mean FIRM hold on the consumer gas market. They recently pushed a home grown business, ( Git-N-Go) out of business. They quality of fuel remains the same. Its all in the way you present yourself. QT boasts Top Tier. (Endorsed by GM, BMW, Toyota, etc.) but on the other hand, Cononco Phillips, who by the way just scored a MAJOR victory in Venezula Saturday, has the exact, and I mean precisely same fuel levels as QT, just not rated "Top Tier"

QT gas is great, don't get me wrong. They are just kind of like the Microsoft of gas stations here in Tulsa. (kinda figures since Tulsa is the headquaters eh?) But, Conoco Phillips just got a huge deal in Venezula!!! I am mucho excited because that will give me a chance for a real job in about 3 years!!!! (when I finish college!!) So yeah, now I am kind of particular towards C.P.
