I like the overall package, however that wierd frontend reminds of the Nissan NX. What a disgrace. Not liking the front end at all.

And this....

I'd like to see a Mazdaspeed version of this car with at least 200hp or so.... that packaged with its light weight, handling capability would make one serious roadster

They wanted it to look like the original but without having to use flip up headlights

Frankly - I think it's the pimp juice. But I think we need a few more specs (weight, final power, pricing, etc) before we can return a verdict.

The styling is very conservative - but it works well for the Miata.

This is the best-looking Miata yet, IMO. The only thing I would dump is the steering-wheel buttons...they are out of place in a sports car.

Whip, the styling may be conservative by your standards, but this car is not supposed to look like a pimped-out boy-racer with wings on the back and body aero parts sticking out everywhere. Nor was it meant to be a rubber-laying dragster. Its primary mission is, and always has been, to recapture the spirit of the 1950's-60's British open-top roadster in a much more refined and reliable package....without those awful British Lucas electronics and leaky canvas tops.
This it does better than any other car in the American market....with the possible exception of the new Lotus Elise.

I just wish I could FIT in one...Miatas obviously are not designed for anyone over about 5' 8 " or so.

Good. Use that bar and you won't offend the person sitting next to you in the Miata's tight quarters.

Was this a comment on the Miata's size or a stab at my personal hygiene? Either way, it wasn't witty.

Neither....just a little humor I'm sure you keep yourself clean.
Granted, though, Miatas are not for the unwashed.

I agree - hence my comment: "... it works well for the Miata."

Also - I don't really understand the purpose of your comment. I never indicated that I thought the Miata currently does or should look like a "pimped out boy racer".

That said - I like how Mazda flared out the fenders on this new model to accomodate the wheels better. The current generation Miata looks like a 4X4 truck or those GM '64's riding 30's.

OK...your point noted. My apology if you misunderstood me...or vice-versa. My point was that the Miata was intended to be a modern, reliable sequel to classic British roadsters.
Perhaps you are not one of them, but so many people today...especially in the auto media...expect every new vehicle to look like something out of STAR TREK. It gets a little annoying after a while to hear so many nice designs panned as " too conservative "...seems like no matter what manufacurers do style-wise, it is NEVER good enough for some people. The GTO is a classic example of this......a nice car accused of "blandness" and not selling because of plain-Jane looks. One forgets that the ORIGINAL car was also "bland".....just an ordinary Pontiac Tempest with a hood scoop and red-stripe tires....and IT sold like hotcakes.
Now....I don't want to sound two-faced.....I know I really pan newer BMW's for styling among other things......but that doesn't just include styling. My chief complaint with them actually is NOT styling but shoddiness and that ridiculous I-Drive.
