Saab Automobile's chief executive officer, Peter Augustsson, will leave the company following GM's decision to pass over Trollhattan as the place to build new mid-size cars. Augustsson will leave General Motors on April 1 to start his own company, Reuters reports. Last week, GM said it would build the next generation of its European mid-size cars - which includes the Opel Vectra and Saab 9-3-not at the Saab plant in Trollhattan but at Russelsheim, Germany. GM has promised to build Saabs in Sweden for at least five years as well as models like the Saab-derived Cadillac BLS, but made no guarantee to keep the plant open past 2010. Augustsson told reporters that the decision by GM made it a fitting time for him to leave the company he'd led since 2000. Augustsson will be replaced by Jan-Aake Jonsson, GM's Nordic region chief of sales and marketing, though the new position will be as a brand director. Opel's Carl-Peter Forster, will take Augustsson's duties as Saab chairman

as of today, almost everyone in the Hong Kong car community knows that SAAB only produces one single model: SAAB Lemon, be it 1997cc, 2497cc, turbo.... it is expected that after the initial year, each month the Lemon spends half of the time being repaired.

Saab, as I said previously, is not dead....but, instead of just leaving parent GM and letting GM appoint someone else in his place, Peter Augustsson should seriously consider taking the company with him and divorcing both him AND Saab from GM ( * ).
GM may own the firm on paper, but Augustsson calls the shots at Saab and is Saab's highest authority, and If he says no more GM, then it's bye-bye.
( * ) after giving the 9-7X back to Chevy.....where it came from.
