German car mag, they get inside info and create renderings based on that, IIRC. At least for Bimmers, they tend to be pretty spot on.

Their renderings for the new S-class & CL-class are pretty accurate too .

Good to know. Maybe the Panamera will eventually look like the pic above. Very classy and sporty for a 4-door sedan. Looks tons better than the MB CLS for sure.

Default Porsche Panamera Latest SPY PHOTOS:

Caught on the Nurburgring
Editor's Note: Text previously published 10/05/2006

A prototype for Porsche’s upcoming all new four-door coupe “Panamera” is currently being tested for the first time at Nürburgring as well as in the south of Spain.

The new model will be released in spring 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show allowing Porsche enough time for a meticulous development of its fourth model range before market introduction.

Panamera is set to meet the competition of four-door coupes like the Mercedes CLS, which is on the market and of which 24,000 cars have been sold already. Simultaneously, Volkswagen is developing a four-door Passat Coupe, and Aston Martin premičred a four-door coupe concept named Rapide at the last Detroit Motor Show, which caught a lot of attention and is likely to go into production.

Porsche’s Panamera is going to be assembled in Leipzig, Germany thus creating 600 new jobs. The body will come from the Volkswagen plant in Hannover and the engines will come from Porsche’s home base in Stuttgart. Plans are to produce 20,000 units per year from 2009 on.

Initially the front-engined “family” Porsche will come on the market with an 8 cylinder 350hp engine and/or with a biturbo engine delivering 560hp. A lesser costly version will be powered by a 3.5 litre 300 HP fuel engine which is already being used in the Cayenne, four-wheel-drive is standard equipment. The top-of-the line Panamera gets the 10 cylinder 700hp engine coming from the Porsche GT. Seen in the attached photos this engine is currently being tested by Porsche under the body of a BMW 5-Series station wagon.

Furthermore Porsche and Volkswagen are developing a Hybrid version of the Panamera using a 6 cylinder fuel engine combined with a 60 kW electric engine.

While the details are sure to change for production, I think the basic shape is pretty much final. Just look at the profile and smooth lines of the test mule--it's damn near production level! Nothing looks chopped or tacked on here except perhaps for the rear wing. This is the real deal, gentlemen, and the real deal ain't looking real good.

Interesting to know the GT's 700hp V10 is gonna live on in this car, though.

The rear quarter panel and windows are still disguised... I think it's going to end up looking great. Sort of like a squashed Cayenne. While not a fan of the Cayenne I think the result here will be good.

^^along with a great majority of the front and the fake door panels. We can make out the silhouette of the vehicle, but we do not know any of the actual design aspects of the car.

True, I'm sure Porsche will make a very clean looking sedan.

Default Here's another summary of the upcoming Panamera . . .

Porsche's four-door Panamera coupe has been spied in testing, which has given our computer artists the chance to draw up these images of the car.

On sale in 2009, the Panamera is the company's first four-seater coupe and, according to 94% of voters in a whatcar.com poll, will be a good addition to the company’s range.

Engines will include an all-new Volkswagen 3.5-litre V6 with around 300bhp, a non turbo version of Porsche’s 4.5-litre V8 with 350bhp and a turbo version with around 560bhp — enough to give 0-62mph in under 5.0sec.

A reworked version of the Carrera GT’s 612bhp 5.7-litre V10 may also be in the pipeline, as is a hybrid combining petrol power with an electric, battery-powered motor.
