The reason this super NSX varient is so expensive is probrably because it is so rare and exclusive. Honda admits that they loose money on every NSX it sells so with this model they may still not make anything on it considering all the money that goes in to make a production car street legal. The HSC was abandoned due to the fact that many people do want a new NSX and have high expectations of it but were not so enthused with the F1, 360, Enzo odd styling of that concept. It was also way underpowered with a 3.5 liter v6 producing 300 hp for a brand new car. Many people said don't bother building it if you are not going to give a competetive engine and output. Honda is still interested in replacing the NSX but from lukewarm HSC reviews they will not be going in that direction. One reason it is taking so long is that it is not a model that is going to make them money and they have no proper engine for it. They need a v-8 or v-10 to lure American buyer to spend that kind of money and there are some reports that they are testing a turbo v-8. They were toying with a hybrid powertrain but have found out it is not suited for high performance driving and it would be too heavy. The NSX is a car that showcase hondas technology and what they can do which has lured people into dealerships and given them a performance credential that many other makes don't have. They should just build it and not worry about winning races or how to get around making a v-8, v-10 to lure enthusiasts back to the brand.
