Which bike to get?
Guys,
I am considering getting another motorcycle as I sold my last one about 3 years ago. It was a Suzuki TL1000R.
I have been riding since I was 14 and worked my way up from a 250 to my last 1000cc V-Twin.
I am strongly leaning toward a Honda RC-51 - I love how it looks and the torquiness of a v-twin cannot be beaten.
I was also considering an Aprilia RSV Mille but I don't think they look as good as the RC-51. I don't want a bike that everyone has - I like it to be somewhat different than the norm. Thus I am staying away from the R-1, CBR, Blackbird etc.
So basically I want a sportsbike for $8000. Doesn't have to be new. What would you get?
Jonny

Johnny, orginality.... Although I am a rabid fan of the RC 51, heck even the RC45. I have to say no......
hmmmm.....
lets see, you and I are going to Atlas Cycle to see something red. It's from Italy, and a V-Twin.
made famous in a couple movies. i.e. Fled, Matrix,
D-U-C-A-T-I
996 or if you can swing it 998 even.
dude, that is sooooooooo sex right there.

here are a few options
used 916 and buy a 1026 feracci kit
used 748 with a 853 kit
used 01 aprilia
used rc51
if you are stunting do not DO NOT buy a duc. The only wheelies my 999 sees is when I am too hard on the throttle off a turn. Twins are my favorite and ducs are the most fun bike to ride. I love stuffing others in a corner with a faster more hp bike and then dropping them upon the exit. Just my opinion, from an experienced track rider and twin nut.

Guys,
I dunno - Duc's just don't do it for me. They are too skinny.
I like the RC51 because it is big, but not stupid big like the Busa. Also being a Honda I have faith in it.
The problem with the Ducati is that there is basically 1 shop in Tulsa you can bring it to - Atlas. I guess u could bring it to Kinetic though.
I thought about the Ducati for some time but I just don't think it is the bike for me. Also, my best friend wants one and he would be pissed if I got one before him!!
Still leaning toward the RC with the Akrapovic exhaust.
I do like to wheelie and stoppie, so as Robb said - maybe the Duc isn't the right bike for that.

Johnny, I know the guys who run TCS Tulsa Cycle Supply. Used to be riding buddies.
As far as size, isn't the RC51 a 1000? and a 998, well a 998? I dunno I just think a ducati is more art and personality than speed and peformance.
But it's what YOU want not me....
Although you have to admit, a Duc does have that distinct whaaaaaaa!! when it is wide open.
But so does the RC.......
Argh.

if you want a bike for pure speed than i would definitely recommend kawi zx-10r. i have a 04 zx-10r and i love it and believe me i was a big kawi hater before buying this bike. had many suzukis but nothing as far as i am concerned can touch the zx-10r unless you go brand new gixxer 1000.

When I was talking size I meant physical size - eg fairings etc as opposed to the engine cc. Sorry for the confusion man. I like a beefier looking bike
I guess we have to see how the hail damage goes before I decide on the bike!!
Peace,
Jonny

My Suzuki was a terrible cold starter - had problem after problem in the morning. Most mornings I ended up push starting it - damn thing was brand new!!
I have never owned a Honda motorcycle or an Italian one, so it will most likely be between those 2.
Thx guys,
Jonny

Yea the old kawasakis had alot of issues but i know the newer ones like the 2003 up zx-6r, zx-6rr, and the 2004 up zx-10r are supposed to be very reliable and extremely bulletproof motors

Johnny, my SV had the same problem! I think it was just the V-twin design with carbs in all.
I have taken an RC for a ride and the thing started up cold like a champ.
Best invest in a battery tender eh?
Do you have any leads on a RC yet? Just wondering. Because all I can think of when I see or hear an RC is Nicky Hayden. That kid is a phenom. well, he's 24 now but you get the idea.
Also, what is the cost of a full Akro. system?
Cheers

you hear that Johnny? Bullet proof!!!
I guess I need to tear out the SKS.... he he.. j/k
slvrIS, a shop buddy of mine had a 98 for a long time. That thing never gave him any problems at all. As a matter of fact, I think he still rides it along with his 636.
So Johnny, if you get a bike is that going to make you the local "Squid" of CL?? j/k
I still have scars from Hallet.
Hence the reason why I don't have a bike anymore.
