At least the driver crashed in a hardtop convertible. Imagine the same thing happened in a softtop.

Wow that sucks! I hope they survived. But seeing the car doesn't hurt me as much as that Murcielago that was posted awhile ago

Probably wouldn't have made much difference. Most upper-priced and premium soft-top convertibles today come with massive roll-bars that are either rigidly attached to the frame or pop up with powerful springs and lock in place whenever G-sensors in the car detect an impending rollover.

very true. soft top or hard top most convertibles nowadays come with pretty strong windsheild design and roll bars

Ahh...lesson learned. Thanks. Grew up hearing all about how unsafe softtop verts are.

hehe it's cool. you start to do more homework when you are about to get a convertible

just go and take a look at the z4, soft top, and you see huge barts behind the seats

True, but I think the retractable hard-top may have added extra re-inforcement to the A-pillar at least more than a soft-top would have. Keeping the A-pillar erect is pretty important in a roll-over, at least I would have thought so. What do you think?

i don't think so. hard top or not, the top of the windshield is the opening point, and when closed, there is nothing more than just two latches on both sides to hold it down. when the car is put up side down, that connection point offers no strength at all to the overall struture of the car.

instead, i think the a pillar is the part that's sustaining all force. thats all in convertibles, the windshield piece and a pillar are all highly reinforced to provide additional support.

supposedly, the windsheild/a pillar and the rear roll bars, they are the two supporting points that support the whole car when it's flipped over, prevently the driver and pessenger from being crushed
