Dude, I was SHOCKED to see that. That sales for the 330 were still, very strong. The 400h thus, (very early to tell) may provide a nice "halo" effect

Dude, the car was launched APril 18th. In 12 days, they sold 2,400 $50k RX 400s!!! Damn, I guess the waiting list is very true. That is amazing..

I don't get it. Where's the RX400h in their chart?

LX 470 624 825 -27.2 2,609 2,905 -10.2
GX 470 2,843 2,930 -6.6 10,982 10,466 4.9
RX 330 10,172 8,227 19.1 33,286 32,000 4.0
TOTAL LEXUS
LIGHT TRUCK 13,639 11,982 9.6 46,877 45,371 3.3

Are they lumping in the 400h with the 330?

I could not find it either. I am guessing, b/c it was not sold last year, nothing to compare too? It is not combined with the 330

Lexus Division light trucks produced a best-ever April with 13,639 units, up 9.6 percent. The RX 400h, the world's first luxury hybrid vehicle, launched April 18 and reported sales of 2,345 units for the month. The RX 330 luxury SUV on which the RX 400h is based, enjoyed best-ever April sales of 10,172 units, an increase of 19.1 percent

Cadillac Sales Up 19 Percent; Led by Best-Ever STS Sales and Record CTS Sales

http://biz.yahoo.com/cnw/050503/mi_g...ales.html?.v=1

Cadillac delivered strong sales results in April, achieving a 19 percent increase over year-ago levels. The improvement was driven by a 45 percent increase in car sales. STS, Cadillac's latest entry into the luxury car segment, recorded its third consecutive month of sales increases, with a 20 percent improvement over March. The exceptional sales performance of CTS continues well into its fourth year on the market, with April sales 26 percent greater than last year, establishing a new monthly record.

It doesn't make any sense that they wouldn't include the sales of the 400h in that chart. The tC wasn't sold last year, but it was included. That would mean that the total sales for Lexus Light Trucks, Lexus Division, and Toyota Total are all wrong.

American Honda Reports Best Ever April Sales

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050503/latu094.html?.v=8

Acura Division sales rose 11.9 percent to a new April record of 19,102 Acura vehicles. It was the second best month in the Acura's 19-year history and the 18th consecutive record-setting month of sales for the division. Acura year-to-date sales of 67,516 have risen 8.9 percent versus a year ago. Record April sales of the TSX and TL sedans, along with strong performances by the RSX and the all-new RL luxury performance sedan, boosted Acura passenger car sales to a new April record of 14,029 vehicles, up 15.8 percent for the month and 13.6 percent for the year. The TSX sports sedan marked its fifth consecutive record month with sales of 3,329 units, up 35.4 percent for the month and 34.7 percent for the year to date. April sales of the all-new RL luxury performance sedan rose 153.2 percent to 1,304 vehicles, while year-to-date sales of the RL saw an increase of 183.9 percent to 5,463. Record April sales of the MDX sport-utility vehicle lifted Acura light truck sales to a new April record of 5,073 units, a rise of 2.4 percent versus year-ago results.

Obviously the GS is winning the mid-sized category sales (for the Japanese contigent) but I wonder if it's at the cost of some the other cars in the Lexus lineup. The M35/45 has had two months at 2k+/mo sales so it should be able to meet the 20K/year sales goal whereas the RL doesn't look like it's going to make it. It would be interesting to see the E-class and 5 series sales.

The CTS is almost even with the TL in the sales lead for entry level sedans. But for the rather bland dash, that 6MT CTS is pretty sweet. The new IS can't come soon enough to stir things up in the category.

But for the CLS, MB sales would have been dismal. The C/E-class are sliding even more. Those new engines can't come fast enough - I hope they get some quality/reliability upgrades with those engines.

If this is true, Lexus sold more RX 330s and RX 400h than the whole lineup
I was looking at that yesterday and did a quick model comparison. Infiniti does not have a competitor for the RX, ES, or SC. Also Toyota has way more models than Nissan. I would say that makes Toyota very smart to have a very diversified lineup but it still come up short on models offered when compared to BMW and Mercedes. I don't really think that Lexus will ever offer that many models but Infiniti may fare better if the offered a competitor to every Lexus model. The same would be true for Acura.

Infiniti does have the FX35/45 versus the RX330 that you' ve left out.
They also have the coupe version of the G35 which is absent for the IS300.
Next year they'll drop the Q45, but they' ve trademarked the CX25/35 which will be a small SUV.

Because of price and size you would have to put the FX up against the GX. My take is the CX will be the RX competitor.

I'm not sure about the Q being dropped. I've read in several places that it will received an extreme make over in 2007. Even Nissan's CEO in an interview earlier this year when asked about the Q would not comfirmed that it will be dropped. I don't see how they can even consider dropping the Q without a replacement. To be a true competitor major leagues of Luxury Car companies you must have a car that can compete with the 7 series, S series, A8, and LS. Why else would Lexus even consider lengthing the LS. The M is not in this class so it can not be their flagship car.

With the IS coupe due out next year Lexus have covered all the bases with the G35.

The FX & RX maybe similar in size, but the FX actually has smaller passenger & cargo space than the RX & is car based, whereas the GX is significantly larger & truck-based & more expensive, so it's not comparable to the FX.
With the RX400h, the RX & FX35/45 have a ~95%+ overlap in price range. And from what I' ve read in Nissan forums the CX will likely be smaller than the RX & closer to size to a RAV4 than a highlander, that only makes sense for a CX25, otherwise it may be too small an engine for a RX / FX size SUV.
