i think I recall that commercial was done on a angled rear wheel dyno while the speedo hit past the 80mph mark...I think it was 100mph. It's been so long.

The book photo has the speedo pegged at 143 mph. Page 107

I like the new LS 430 one, where the guy is going like 80mph in reverse looking through the camera and does the 180 at the end

yes I agree, I don't get the person swimming or descending into a ice cavern & finding a "start button" I think that part of the ad is pretty, well, dumb.
Also, I find that with Lexus advertising there is so much emphasis on the 'luxuries of life' than so much the cars. Like, the picture of a yatch or folks golfing or the backdrop of a nice mansion.
Can we just get on with the cars, please.

I agree that the LS400 "Champagne Glass" is one of the best ones. That one just blew me away. When I first saw it I was sure they used some kind special effects, now I know it was for real. I heard that when they first introduced the LS400 to the world, the president did it first in real life at a press conference in front of people and the room fell silent.
Another one of my favorite oldies Lexus commercials is the one with the little marble rolling along the lines of the LS400, to prove how perfectly it was assembled.
Oh, and the one with the Spanish "Flamenco" guitarist who recorded a cd in the back seat of the LS400 while the car was driving at 60 mph to prove how quiet the car is. I actually had that cd, but lost it somehow.
