IS300 actually came out a couple years earlier than 01 in Japan as a Toyota, it isn't even meant to be a Lexus initially . . .

anyone find it weird that it says they would offer a gs350 and 430? the 350 would have more hp than the 430, what sense does that make?

also, an es with 300+hp???

yeah like andrew said, the altezza was in japan for a while already before they came in here as lexus is300

plus, the car was NEVER intended to be a lexus at all. if you look at a lot of designs on the car it's totally against the lexus design, and you can see a lot of stuff are just "cram in", even the engine placement, it's not designed that way to begin with

so it makes sense that lexus gets rid of the car fast and get something the real deal

yeah someone brought that up a while ago, it would be really interesting to see what's up on that, coz' hp is really what sells a car, and people sees the gs350 with more hp and less expensive... umm...

I think it's hard to imagine a es350 with 300hp unless the car gets rwd or awd. I think 300hp would cause too much torque steer on fwd and I can't see the typical es buyer putting up with that

He means that the ES and GS have never shared the same engine and that they probably won't this next generation. If the porty GS has 300+ hp I don't think that necessarily means that the ES will.

yup that's correct james, thanks for clarification, and sorry about my typo.

the ES and the GS/IS never share the same engine, and personally i am not sure if they will share the same engine in the future as well. if they do, there is no point in having the ES and the IS imho?

No way Lexus will get rid of the ES. That car sells 60k cars year after year and has a loyal following and HUGE Brand, people buy it no questions asked as they know its the absolute most luxurious sedan under 40k.
The ES continues to just get more luxurious. With the Avalon even more luxurious and the GS more expensive and the LS going even higher upmarket, the ES will continue to get better.

As for the engine sharing, now even Benz has caught on with their new 3.5, BMW with their new 3.0 and clearly, Nissan. Lexus will probably use the new 3.5 as well in most all new products.
