Toyota to recall 880,000 vehicles
Wednesday, May 18, 2005 Posted: 12:47 AM EDT (0447 GMT)
TOYOTA, Japan (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp. has said it will recall about 880,000 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pickups worldwide, mostly in the United States, to fix a defect in the front suspension that could hamper steering.
Covered in the recall, aimed at fixing front-suspension ball joints that could wear faster than they should, are the Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks and Sequoia, Landcruiser Prado and 4Runner/Hilux Surf SUVs built between May 2001 and December 2003.
Of the total, 789,000 units are in North America.
Japan's top auto maker said it does not disclose estimated recall costs.
A spokesman said there was one report of an accident in Japan, where Toyota is recalling 23,800 Hilux Surf and Landcruiser Prado vehicles. Information on accidents elsewhere was not immediately available.
The recall also covers 19,000 vehicles in Europe and 12,000 in Australia.

Wow
There have been two minor accidents relating to the mechanical defect but no injuries have been reported, according to Toyota spokeswoman Allison Takahashi.
I quote this from the article. I mean two minor accidents and they recall 790,000 vehicle. This same thing happened to another car companies I'm sure they will it ride, deny, lie and cover it up until somebody get hurt or get kill. I have to give Toyota a

Actually, Landcruiser Prado is the same as GX470. So, I think this recall will affect 2003 and some 2004 GX.

Prado and GX are not the same. They are very similar but do not share engines or many key mechanical/ electric/interior/body parts.
As far as I know, the GX and 4Runner are built side by side in Tahara. The Prado, I'm not sure where it's built.
If the recall affects the GX, they will notify people by mail. From what I've read, it is a scratched ball joint during manufacture so can lead to failure over a long period of time.
